Neve 8068 MKI Muscle Shoals Mixing Console #A4093 (Vintage)

A rare opportunity to acquire a Neve 8068 MKI 80 Series Class A console from Muscle Shoals Sound Studios - the legendary Alabama recording facility whose sessions helped define the sound of American popular music across several decades. Installed in Studio A at 1000 Alabama Avenue around 1980, this console was present for every session made there until the studio's closure in early 2005 - an absolutely top-tier roster that includes Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, B.B King, Bob Seger, John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Glenn Frey, and Carlos Santana, among many others.

The 8068 is Rupert Neve's masterwork in large-format console design. Transformer-coupled throughout and built around the legendary 31102, it is renowned for warmth and depth in the low end, an easy, airy clarity in the highs, and a musicality that remains unmatched by anything built since. This example is a 32-channel, 16-bus frame with all original Neve 31102 amplifiers on every channel, original Neve switching modules throughout, and a full set of Penny & Giles faders.

Cosmetically the console presents exceptionally well for its age, with custom wooden side panels, all knob and switch caps intact, down to the original Rupert Neve & Company serial plate clear and present. Functionally, it passes audio and logic testing and is operational as-is. In order to bring the console to optimal performance, a thorough cleaning and calibration is required; a complete recapping is recommended.
