The Neve 1073DPX is a dual-channel mic/line/DI preamp and EQ unit that brings the iconic sound of the vintage Neve 1073 preamp/EQ into present-day workflows. A true studio workhorse, the 1073DPX features versatile 3-band EQ controls, military-grade build quality, and cutting-edge enhancements for flexibility in modern recording setups. Custom Neve transformers provide "big iron" sound, and a built-in stereo headphone output adds versatility. The 1073DPX is ideal for professional audio engineers, musicians, and producers seeking the classic sound of the Neve 1073 mic preamp/EQ.
At the heart of the Neve 1073 DPX lies the legendary 1073 mic preamp/EQ, built with custom transformer-balanced Class A circuitry for studio-quality sound. With 80 dB of gain available, this preamp is capable of handling even the quietest ribbon microphones. Its proprietary Neve Marinair transformers deliver "big iron" tone with smooth harmonic saturation. Whether capturing vocals, guitars, or drums, the 1073 DPX infuses your tracks with the unmistakable warmth and presence that has defined Neve’s legacy.
In addition to the classic preamp circuit, the Neve 1073DPX includes a versatile 3-band EQ derived from the original Neve 1073 design, offering precise control over your sound. The low and midrange bands provide selectable frequencies, while the fixed high shelf adds instant brightness to your tracks. For added flexibility, the high-pass filter allows you to sculpt bass tones with precision. From tightening low-end to enhancing mids and highs, the 3-band EQ in the 1073DPX delivers the iconic Neve sound with intuitive controls and unparalleled sonic precision.
While staying true to its vintage roots, the Neve 1073DPX dual-channel preamp/EQ incorporates modern enhancements for contemporary studio environments. Its front-panel mic/line combo connectors provide quick input switching, and switchable phantom power for condenser microphones. Additional controls like phase reversal, impedance switching, and ground lift offer adaptability for any setup.
The Neve 1073DPX offers pre- and post-EQ insert points, making it easy to incorporate external processors into your signal chain. These insert loops allow you to include compressors, effects units, or other gear in the signal chain, either before or after the onboard EQ section, giving you plenty of flexibility for recording and mixing workflows.
Need to monitor mono and stereo signals in real time? No problem. The Neve 1073DPX includes a built-in headphone output, offering direct signal monitoring for both channels. This functionality is perfect for dialing in precise preamp settings or EQ adjustments during tracking and mixing sessions.
The Neve 1073DPX dual-channel preamp/EQ is ideal for a wide range of recording and mixing applications. From capturing the subtle nuances of vocal performances to recording stereo instruments and line input sources, the 1073DPX sounds great on any source. Its powerful mic/line/DI preamp and EQ design perfectly capture Neve’s iconic sound. Whether used as a 1073 standalone preamp or integrated into a larger studio setup, the 1073DPX delivers the sonic integrity and versatility demanded by modern producers.
There is no other unit on the market that is so close to the vintage 1073 sound for that price. Forget all the 1073 knockoffs and get the DPX. You’ll congratulate yourself for your wise decision.
Just amazing when you get to work with the real thing. Amazing sound!
There are a lot of companies that offer 1073 clones/copies. That alone tells you about the impact of that original design and why it is still relevant after so many decades. This unit is not a disappointment. Just did a recording of acoustic guitar and vocal through it and a Large-diaphragm Condenser Tube Mic (think M49). The audio was very present/forward and detailed, particularly after adding compression and a little EQ. I found that I was able to be subtle with both EQ and compression because the sound was “right”. I have also used it on individual instruments like acoustic piano VST’s and on the stereo buss. It adds a spark of quality wherever it is used. I have some other great pieces by Shadow Hills, Neve 542’s and some Dave Hill stuff. This is my favorite piece. It isn’t cheap, but why waste time and money on inferior copies (though some are pretty good) when you can get the real thing.
Worth every penny. Sure, the plugin may do very commendable job. However, this piece of gear is now the cornerstone in my humble studio.
Sounds amazing!
Awesome sounding preamp and eq, just love it!
Amazing pre amp
Absolutely Bitchin Preamp
I'll admit I was skeptical when I bought this unit, with many of the high-end clones costing the same if not more. Had the 1073 really come back at such a price point? It's the real deal. This is the sound you're looking for. Stop reading this and buy it.
Upgraded from pairs of the AMS 500-series 1073LB's linked with 1073LBEQ's and was really happy with this. The modularity of the 500 series was nice, but I was drawn to the additional features. From my experience I find full rack versions of gear to sound subtly better than 500 counterparts (lower noise, less distortion/higher headroom, less peaky variations across freq spectrum). The 1073DPX even costs less than the two pairs of 500 series modules (2 pre's + 2 eq's)! The additional features in the 19" rack version which includes selectable inserts, headphone out, multiple monitor points, etc. are very welcome. I find I use the headphone output quite a bit for practicing bass or keys. The sound is very familiar from the 1073LB experience, but slightly more open/high end and I enjoy the sound of the pushed EQ more. The extra top end makes it more "3D" sounding than the 500 series and gets it closer to what I envision the magical 1073 sound to be (I don't have experience with vintage units). Mostly use this for tracking and not mixing or two bus processing. Favorites are bass, keyboards, and vocals. It's my favorite bass DI and I would hold on to this solely for that purpose, it's that good! Electric guitars are sometimes nice through this, but it depends on the tone I'm after. For me it's about 30% of the time electric works with 1073 and 70% of the time I run electric through API 512's. Need to experiment more to find my favorite drum uses, but I can see how people might like this for kick and snare application as there's some very special/desirable mid range and low-mid coloration that happens. I highly recommend the 1073DPX as a versatile and interesting sounding preamp! I'd pick this over many other options in the price range based on its sound alone and the additional features really tip the scale.
