Neumann U47 Pair #5658/5664 (Vintage)

Originally sold to a French broadcasting company in 1963. In beautiful cosmetic shape. Set comes with original Neumann dual-channel PSU, Neumann shockmounts; newer mic cable and aftermarket cases. Original Nuvistors have been replaced with authentic Telefunken VF14 tubes.

This near-consecutive pair are among the last U47's ever made by Neumann, thus they had origanally been fitted with Nuvistor tubes, as the VF14's had gone out of stock by then. All original, and in beautiful condition, these are a piece of audio history. Microphones will be serviced to be as close as possible to a stereo pair.

The Neumann U 47 is the granddaddy of large diaphragm condensers, with a justifiably legendary sound. It was the first post-war mic produced by Georg Neumann GmbH in West Berlin. Built around a World War II military radio tube with a capsule design from 1929, it became a bench mark mic in the early fifties. Engineers found out quickly that the sensitivity of the U 47 greatly enhanced the detail of their recordings. And the combination of head grille, diaphragm, tube and output transformer created a magical tone that has reproduced the vocals of virtually every famous singer in recent music history.
