Originally released in 1980, the U 89 i was designed as a smaller, lighter, modernized version of the world famous Neumann U 87. Capable of handling much higher sound pressure levels, the U 89 i is ideal for recording hard-hitting drummers, roaring guitar amps and more. The robust low cut filter features three settings—perfect for eliminating rumble and compensating for the proximity effect when close miking.

In addition to the traditional omni, cardioid, and figure-8 polar patterns, the U 89 i offers two additional positions for fine-tuning the ambience of your recordings—wide cardioid and hypercardioid. These new polar patterns are perfect for capturing natural sounding recordings in reverberant environments.
