Neumann measurement mics were long the industry standard, used in calibrating microphones by manufacturers all over the world. The Neumann MM2 microphone has a beautiful tone, utilizing the same VF14 tube as in the U47 and the same aluminum Omni capsule (10mm) as in an M50, but without the Plexiglas sphere. The very long neck isolates the capsule from the amplifier, thus preventing any coloration of the sound field.
They have a very low noise floor with a nice sweet open top-end, and the low end of a U47. They are very rare with only about 90 ever produced at Neumann Berlin between 1949 until 1954. Their frequency response is approximately 30Hz to 18k! One of the best omnidirectional mics ever produced, the MM2 is fantastic as a room mic, for overheads, acoustic instruments and so on.
