The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 MK2 combines the best-feeling hammer-action keybed around with vivid visual feedback and tight integration for your entire workflow: Browse and preview all your presets from KOMPLETE and hundreds of NKS plug-ins, sculpt your sound, and control your favorite DAW from the ultimate studio centerpiece.
A keyboard that feels better plays better. Express yourself on 88 fully weighted Fatar keys, each with an advanced hammer-action mechanism, Smart Spring technology, and memory-foam damping for a realistic piano feel.
The S88 puts everything you need to know right in your line of sight: Get essential information on sounds and projects from two high-res color screens; see exactly what’s going on with backlit buttons that vary in color and intensity; and pinpoint the location of sounds, key zones, switches, scales, and more with Light Guide.
Finding the right sound amongst a sprawling sound library can be difficult, not to mention time consuming. Now you can find exactly what you’re looking for across all KOMPLETE and Native Kontrol Standard (NKS) instruments using a simple, intuitive tagging system – directly from the hardware. What’s more, you can hear a preview of each sound as you browse, without loading the instrument.
Your soundtrack needs epic strings? Select Bowed Strings > String Ensemble > Sample-based, scroll through the presets and pick the best fit. And if you really like what you hear, just tag it as a favorite for instant access next time.
All of your KOMPLETE and NKS instruments and effects are pre-mapped to the KOMPLETE KONTROL hardware by the people who know them best – the instrument designers themselves. Essential parameters like envelope controls and filter cutoffs load instantly and are displayed across the two color displays, intuitively divided into pages. That means you can see exactly what you’re adjusting in real time – whether it’s in kHz, dB, or BPM.
Stay in key, with notes of the currently selected scale or mode lit on the Light Guide. Activate chord mode to create a progression by playing single keys, then switch on the arpeggiator and turn it into an expressive musical performance. And for keyboard novices, Easy Mode maps the white keys to whichever scale you like, so you’ll never hit a wrong note.
Get precise control of pitch and mod functions via two ergonomic, rubberized wheels. And the ultra-sensitive touch strip provides a fun, responsive alternative to plugging in a dedicated expression pedal.
Capture all your ideas, directly from the keyboard itself: KOMPLETE KONTROL gives you immediate access to transport, mixing, and editing controls in Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, Cubase, Nuendo, and GarageBand, complete with visual feedback and volume metering on the keyboard’s built-in displays. And with MIDI in / out, incorporating outboard gear into your setup is just as simple.
NKS means intuitive control over hundreds of instruments and effects from leading manufacturers – including Heavyocity, Spitfire Audio and Waves. This extended plug-in format allows all developers to define the way their products integrate with NI hardware, so support for powerful features like tag-based browsing, Light Guide feedback, and pre-mapped controls now extends far beyond the KOMPLETE universe. And for plug-ins that haven’t yet been updated to NKS, it’s simple to create your own mappings from KOMPLETE KONTROL software.
Register your KOMPLETE KONTROL hardware to download KOMPLETE 12 SELECT for free – the essential collection of instruments and effects, including MASSIVE, MONARK, and THE GENTLEMAN. The package features more than 7,000 sounds and over 33 GB of instruments and effects, giving you the perfect palette of sounds for any genre.
And when you’re ready to expand your collection, you’ll be eligible for a discounted upgrade to KOMPLETE 12 or KOMPLETE 12 ULTIMATE.
Native Kontrol Standard (NKS) makes it easier to browse, play, and control hundreds of instruments and effects, from over 75 different developers. It's basically an extended plug-in format that connects software instruments and effects seamlessly to NI's KOMPLETE KONTROL keyboards and MASCHINE hardware.
Enjoy hardware pre-mapping of all key instrument and effect parameters, chosen by the developers themselves. Play intricate chord progressions and arpeggios, even with no musical training, and with just one finger. Light Guide lets you see – and control – a range of deeper parameters, settings, articulations, mappings, and more.

This is a good value overall. If you're looking for a full spread of keys, solid functionality and non-jarring aesthetic, this is a good choice. Take those comments as the baseline, and since people often look at reviews to discover what's not so great, here is the list: The keybed is great but is not an ultra realistic piano feel - great for people who are looking for more weight and mechanical feel, but not if you're a pianist or purist. The Komplete SW that connects the native functionality between NI plugs and the keyboard works great, but the VI browser is frustrating as it is not as large as the usual VI windows. I find looking browsing plugs in the Komplete VI wrapper frustrating. That said, once you find your plug, tweaking from the keyboard is great - even though tweaking patches from the VI window is far more extensive, the keyboard mapping sets you up to be able to shape sounds from the most powerful and top level parameters. If you want to get nerdy, which I often do, you'll probably be mousing within the VI window. Lastly on the bummer list, is that the keyboard arrived with the lowest key having a slight "tick" sound when fully depressed - as if there is a bit of film from assembly misaligned. It is super quiet and with headphones on I can't even hear it, and I get the feeling that what ever is making the sound will wear "in". SO - I do recommend this keyboard as a great value and a solid approach to upgrading your keybed to something larger and more piano-like. Don't get me wrong, it DOES feel like a piano, just don't expect it to feel like a $4k kawai.
Great keyboard just keep in mind that most of the buttons are for controlling Komplete or Maschine. If you run this keyboard in “MIDI Controller” mode lots of the buttons and even the arpeggiator are disabled. It’s not like a standard multifunction MIDI controller - instead it’s best to think of this keyboard as a remote for Mashine / Komplete which also works as a MIDI keyboard.
Great controller!! The key feels great and functions are so effective!!
