In the four decades since its creation, the Moog Music Minimoog Model D has become one of the world’s most beloved synthesizers. Played by a wide variety of artists ranging from Kraftwerk and Gary Numan to Dr. Dre and Trent Reznor, this classic synthesizer has been an influential musical touchstone that defies genres and time periods. Now, for the first time in 30 years, Moog Music is resuming production of the synth with a brand new Minimoog Model D.
With the new Minimoog Model D, Moog Music has worked extremely hard to keep the original sound engine and audio signal path of the Minimoog Model D intact. The new version of the synthesizer features only minimal updates, with many of the changes revolving around adding popular advancements to the unit. The Moog Music Minimoog Model D now features an analog LFO (with triangle and square wave shapes), a premium Fatar keybed with velocity and after pressure via top panel CV jacks, CV outputs for pitch, gate, velocity and after pressure, a mixer overload modification and basic MIDI integration.
Created by Robert Moog and Bill Hemsath, the original Minimoog was released in 1970 and designed to offer musicians of the time a simple synthesizer that could be used for live performance. By bringing the components of a large-scale modular synthesizer into a much smaller package, the designers were able to offer something that could take on the rigors of the road, studio and stage. The Minimoog Model D was the fourth version of the synthesizer and remained in production until 1981.
As with all Moog Music products, each Minimoog Model D will be built and crafted in the brand’s Asheville, North Carolina-based factory. Installed into a beautiful, locally-sourced Appalachian hardwood enclosure and aluminum chassis, this 3-oscillator, monophonic, analog synthesizer features the exact same component placement and through-hole design of the classic Minimoog Model D.
The one and only Model D! The absolutely best version of this classic. In love
