The Mojave Audio MA-300 is a multi-pattern large diaphragm, vacuum tube condenser microphone. Based upon the widely accepted MA-200 designed by David Royer, the MA-300 adds a continuously variable pickup pattern selector, 15 dB pad and a switchable bass roll-off. The MA-300 gives warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments, with none of the shrillness and high frequency distortion artifacts that are often encountered with modern condenser microphones.
Utilizing hand-selected, dual-diaphragm 3-micron capsules, high-quality custom-wound audio transformers, and military-grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes, the MA-300 performs at a level reminiscent of some of the best-loved classic condenser microphones. The MA-300 power supply can be set for 115V and 230V, 50 or 60 Hz, through an internal switch (100V is also available). Each MA-300 microphone, power supply, and cable set is burned in for 24 hours, carefully tested and evaluated, then packaged in its protective case-within-a-case.
This is my first tube mic and to be honest, I'm still in the learning phase of home recording (it never ends). I bought this for vocals and a few singer friend of mine came over to do some tracking. I ran it through various mic preamps (API, Neve, 6176, Chandler) and they all sounded great. I tried it on the lower bout of my acoustics with various other mics set on the 12th fret. The combinations all sounded good, but the best sound was the MA-300 by itself. Lesson learned and that's my new standard. Highly recommended. The folks at Vintage King are great and I can't wait to get down and see the actually store soon!
I have several mics that I use for vocal applications. However, the Mojave-300 has immediately become my favorite, both for male and female vocalist. Specifically, I like the nice clean open warm sound that I get when recording with this mic. This is definitely my go to for multiple applications, especially vocal recordings.
Excellent female vocals
Great mic and great customer service by VK!
I love this mic!!! Was on a search for a great tube mic for vocals, acoustic guitar, etc. and stumbled upon some reviews comparing this mic to a U67; so that’s what got me intrigued. I watched a few videos that talked about it sounding almost identical to the U67 except for the high end of this mic. I have read that this is a particular mic on vocals but when it works, it works. I LOVE it on my vocals. It has a tremendous amount of clarity and high end sizzle with a warm thick tubey sound. For no reason whatsoever, I compared It to mics I had laying around at the time: AKG 414 B-ULS, SM7B, Rode K2 and some other mics. I just wanted to hear what the MA300 brought to the table and it made the differences even clearer. The clarity, detail and presence of this mic is phenomenal. I also found it to have way more character than all the other mics. At the end of the day it was either this or a very pricey U47 clone, but I opted to go this route because I felt it got me exactly what I was looking for at about $1-2k less that I was about to spend. As of right now, I own this MA-300, AKG C414 B-ULS and an AEA R84, along with some versatile dynamic mics and I can’t image that I would need anything else in my mic locker for quite a while. I have since sold off my lower end large diaphragm condenser mics, because with those 3 mics I listed above, I no longer found it necessary to keep the others. One day I hope to compare it to an actual U67 and the pricier U47 clone, but for now I’m extremely happy and got exactly what I was looking for with this mic.
