Looptrotter's SA2RATE is a result of thorough research and time-consuming experiments which were to lead to coming in the analogue sound to the cutting-edge technology. It provides referring to the sound of vintage valve consoles and tape recorders.
The new version of SA2RATE is extended with a BOOST function, which amplifies the input level by 17 dB. Thanks to this option SA2RATE can directly cooperate with devices having a nominal output level of -10 dB, such as synthesizers, samplers, drum machines etc. It can also be directly inserted into effects loop in guitar amplifiers.
Simultaneously SA2RATE is equipped with a balanced output with nominal level of +4 dBu and can serve as in instrumental preamplifier.
With an input signal level of about +4 dBu the BOOST function allows extreme saturation and signal distortion, which significantly widens the sound scape available through SA2RATE.
SA2RATE works as an analogue soft limiter as well. It slightly aligns the signal and adds low-order harmonics in a smart way. The unit sets a solid and fat sound in the recording, proccessing and mixing.
Monster Compressor was a primary point of reference for the creation of SA2RATE because of its acknowledged saturation system based on vaccum tubes. We managed to achieve a distinct sound of vaccum tubes with the usage of semiconductor technology.
SA2RATE is user-friendly. All the channels are equipped with two knobs: DRIVE (saturation depth) and OUTPUT (output level). Saturation depth (the amount of added harmonics) is indicated by two LEDs at 4 and 8% THD.
Apparent level and transient smoothing used to occur by pushing analog electronics to their sweet spots and beyond.
