The Little Labs VOG analog bass resonance tool is the latest creation from Little Labs, and is Little Labs first entry in the popular API 500-Series module format.The VOG was originally designed to capture the chest resonance of vocalists or voice over artists, enabling them to still have a proximity type effect without having to be so close to the mic, hence the name, VOG, or Voice of God. However, when I heard it on kick drum and bass, it became clear this would be the go to device to make these instruments sound huge.The VOG lets users sweep a sharp peak resonance from 20 to 300 Hz, while anything below the peak is rolled off at a steep -24dB per octave. This lets users focus on the low end they want, while eliminating low-end mush and unnecessary woofer excursion.A subharmonic can be the focus, or the fundamental, or upper harmonics. On a kick drum, for example, the overall effect of turning VOGs frequency knob sounds like someone is tightening or loosening the drumhead. In a mix, VOG allows users to place the bass spectrum instruments so they do not interfere or get in the way of each other.
Very useful. I have the UAD plugin as well. This unit feels a little more alive and real.
I beg your pardon to report my opi ion in French but it is more precise for me. Je suis vraiment très content de mon module VOG. Il fait maintenant partie des 3 modules qui me servent a preamplifier ma basse: préampli, compresseur et VOG. Il est venu en remplacement d'un égaliseur dont je me servais assez peu, ayant soigné mon son de basse "de base" par le choix laborieux de lutheries (j'ai plusieurs basses) micros et jeux de cordes (généralement différents d'une basse à l'autre). Du coup avec l'égaliseur j'agissais surtout sur les fréquences graves généralement en coupant un peu le haut-grave/bas-medium et en boostant un peu l'infra-grave pour compenser. Le VOG remplace avantageusement l'égaliseur. Il ne me semble pas creuser le haut-grave/bas-medium mais sa façon de booster le grave fait très bien le job en l'alourdissant sans l'empater et cela avec seulement 2 boutons (et 2 switches). Info pour les bassistes assez fous comme moi pour se servir de modules 500 pour préamplifier leur basse: après avoir été conquis par le compresseur Pete's Place BAC-500 je l'ai remplacé par le Sound Skulptor LA502 (sur lequel j'ai remplacé les LEDs rouges par des orange). En préampli c'est un peu plus dépendant de la basse (en coupant les cheveux en 4) mais j'ai un petit faible pour le Sound Skulptor MP599 pour la guitare basse solid body et le A-Designs P1 pour la basse electro-acoustique et la contrebasse. Mais les autres vont bien aussi avec des qualités différentes qu'il serait long de rapporter ici dont le Millenia HV-35, LaChapell 583e, Radial Jensen Twin Servo, Sound Skulptor MP566, iGS Red Stripe.
