The JL Audio Fathom F112v2 is a superb subwoofer solution in medium-sized rooms and is equally at home supporting a music-only system or a home theater system. The combination of an ultra-long throw W7 12-inch driver and a very powerful switching amplifier give it the kind of output normally associated with far larger subwoofer systems.
Because it is built with the same driver and amplifier technology as JL's flagship Gotham, the f112v2 delivers a tremendous level of sound quality. Low distortion, excellent dynamic capabilities and shockingly deep bass extension will allow you to experience all the excitement of the most demanding cinematic material, while also being able to reproduce all the nuance and texture of your most delicate musical material.
A complete set of signal processing features is easily accessible on the front surface of every Fathom. These include a highly flexible low-pass filter, variable phase, switchable polarity, e.l.f. trim and our powerful Digital Automatic Room Optimization (D.A.R.O.) system. A calibrated microphone is included for the D.A.R.O. system. Input connections are made via unbalanced RCA connections or balanced Neutrik combo XLR/TRS jacks. Also included is an XLR output to connect a second Fathom as a slave unit.
Best Subs I’ve heard hands down. I bought two to go along with my ATC monitors!
I’m pretty excited about how the main monitor sound is now. The bass is pleasant and honest now, but if I want to hype it up I defiantly can. Love these! Paired with atc scm 45. 2 subs.
I have a pair of these 12 inch subs. I have no bias one way or the other re any audio manufacturer. I've been into audio for decades and owned subs from all major manufacturers. I got to the point where they all pretty much sounded the same; I had purchased a pair of SB16 subs from SVS and they were fine but really did not offer any improvement over the GE XXL subs they replaced. My dealer suggested I try a JL sub and I purchased a pair of the 13 inch model for the surround room and after getting them tuned in was stunned at the difference. It is not "volume" or "depth" of bass that makes these subs different, it is the "quality" of the sound. I know that is nebulous, but if you have the chance to watch a scene in which bass is extremely important e.g. Fellowship of the Ring where the fellowship is moving through Moria and encounters the Balrog, with different subs you'll instantly know the difference. With the 13 inch subs the room is truly engulfed in a way that puts you into the movie, superb beyond description. You just have to experience it. The latter experience converted me to a JL fan and I bought the 12 inch subs for a 2 channel music system. I have the advantage of using an Anthem STR preamp in the system and thus access to ARC, and subs this good must be properly blended with your mains to truly appreciate them. You should never "hear" the subs, they just fill the bottom of your room with a feeling of depth and make you think your mains are truly full range, and that's the whole point of a sub. JLA support is superb btw. Lastly, something that doesn't get emphasized enough is the room correction feature of the these subs. What you hear is due primarily to your speakers interacting with the acoustics of your room. If your processor does not have room correction you are really at a disadvantage. By far the most important part of room correction is the lower frequency equalization, and the DARO feature of these subs takes care of that beautifully. So if you do not have access to ARC or DIRAC these subs can dramatically improve your SQ compared to subs without some form of equalization. In summary, JL Fathoms subs will be the last subs you ever feel the need to purchase, i.e. there is no upgrade from here.
