In 1996, IK Multimedia was founded in the small town of Modena, Italy by Enrico Iori and Davide Barbi—two engineers who were determined to recreate the sound of classic analog gear with a computer. They started with one of the most iconic pieces of gear in recording history: a vintage Abbey Road console. Ever since, IK has been dedicated to recreating legendary recording gear in the digital world and making them available to all musicians.
In 1999, IK Multimedia introduced T-RackS, the first analog-modeled desktop mastering solution. Since then, the brand has been leading the way, setting an industry standard and crafting some of the world’s best-sounding plug-ins for professional applications. In 2002, the brand introduced AmpliTube, the first guitar amp and effects modeling plug-in that emulates your entire rig, including popular pedals, iconic amp heads and custom cabs.
Following the success of the popular AmpliTube software, IK Multimedia released the iRig in 2010, which went on to become one of the most popular guitar interfaces of all time. For the first time, guitar and bass players could plug into their iPhone and use their mobile device to play, practice and record with apps like IK’s AmpliTube, Apple’s GarageBand and more. Since then, the brand has continued to evolve the iRig line, introducing new models like iRig Pre in 2012 and iRig Pro, iRig Pro DUO and iRig Pro QUATTRO.
IK Multimedia introduced the iLoud in 2013, a portable studio-quality speaker designed for musicians and audiophiles. In 2016, IK followed up with the iLoud Micro Monitor, the smallest studio reference monitor in the world.
In 2019, the brand released the iLoud MTM, an upgraded version of the classic iLoud designed for high-resolution studio monitoring. Recently, the brand announced that the award-winning iLoud MTM studio monitors are available in multi-unit bundles tailor-made for Dolby Atmos and other immersive audio systems.
Holding true to the brand’s “musicians first” motto, IK Multimedia introduced the iRig Keys I/O keyboard controllers in 2017—combining 25 or 49 full-sized keys with a studio-quality audio interface—followed by the award-winning UNO synthesizer in 2018.
In 2021, IK launched AmpliTube X-GEAR, a line of boutique digital pedals including drive, reverb, delay and modulation effects, offering guitarists access to IK’s renowned effects on stage.
