The Heil Sound PR 30 Dynamic Cardioid Studio Microphone is one of the most versatile microphones for recording and live application. Versatile, in part due to the PR 30’s ability to serve as a very high-quality vocal mic for singing and broadcasting, as well as being a professional recording and live production mic for guitar, bass and drums.

The PR 30 is an “end-fire”, or “front address” mic, which means the source is picked up from directly in the front of the mic. The PR 30 lends itself so nicely to voice for a variety of reasons, but end-fire makes it great for miking guitar and bass cabinets as well. The PR 30 is also exceptional for kick & snare drums.

The ability to withstand nearly 150 dB of SPL comes by way of Heil’s vast knowledge of microphone pick-up patterns, – how and why feedback occurs and then engineering it out. Strategic porting placement and phasing techniques are employed, yielding a very linear cardioid pattern. As such, the PR 30 1.5” element is nearly immune to side and rear noise. The result is a powerhouse microphone that picks up exactly what you want in the mix, rejects what you don’t want, and is extremely resistant to feedback. Most of all, the PR 30 sounds great.

The PR 30 microphone has become the go-to mic for musicians and engineers recording a variety of instruments ranging from guitar, to banjo, bass, drums and more, but it is also a favorite for broadcasters who ply their [spoken-word] trade on a daily basis. The PR 30 will follow the human spoken voice throughout the frequency range better than any other microphone from competing brands. Whether it’s TV, news and talk radio, sporting events, or a live concert simulcast around the world…voices will sound great through a PR 30.

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers! Go ahead, say it... say it as close as you want into the PR 30 microphone without fear of “popping”. You can do this because popping is minimized by the addition of two mesh screens strategically designed to be of differing screen opening sizes (stacked one in front of the other). These screens, along with an additional breath blast foam screen directly in front of the diaphragm, work hand-in-hand to prevent popping at close proximity to the microphone.

The PR 30’s inherent wide frequency range yields a flat response, from 40 Hz, all the way to 18 kHz, with excellent results all the way. One thing of particular importance to producers, FOH and recording engineers is the PR 30 also has a humbucking coil to ward off noise from video monitors and other sources of interference present in the studio, or on stage. This technology is exemplary of how Heil goes to great lengths to provide the absolute best microphone, without cutting corners.

The PR 30, like all Heil microphones, is assembled and quality tested in the USA.
