The Focal Shape 65 Powered Studio Monitor is the largest available speaker in the Shape series, and is meant to be used as a highly accurate nearfield monitor for recording or mixing. Although the Shape 65 is designed to be used as nearfield speakers, they could pass for the main set of monitors at any facility due to their accuracy and attention to detail from the sub frequencies all the way up to the highest harmonic frequencies. There's also an adjustable high pass filter, so users can cut out low-frequency issues or help accommodate specific subwoofer setups.
Focal continues to lead the way in affordable nearfield studio monitors by combining breakthrough designs that they developed primarily for high-end models like their successful SM series. This Shape 65 loudspeaker is the 6.5" model in the Shape series, which brings top-quality Focal reference monitors to your home studio, pro audio editing suite, songwriting workstation, or other application where recording space is limited but the need for accurate monitoring is at a premium.
The Focal Shape 65 Powered Studio Monitor offers an M-shaped inverted-dome driver, cutting-edge flax-sandwich cone, MDF enclosure, innovative acoustics, and ideal electronics that all combine into a speaker that's completely linear and free from distortion. With its dual-passive-radiator design, users can comfortably place the Focal Shape 65s near walls or in corners, while still enjoying extended low ends that are still tight, controlled, and accuracy in a precision amplifier.
Ideal for mixing in a small room, the Shape 65 was designed without ports so they could be positioned against a wall without extra build up in the lower frequencies. They also include threads for adjustable ceiling and wall mounts to easily install in the optimal location. The Flax Sandwich cone allows for a controlled and accurate bass response and extremely detailed mid-range to upper mid-range presence.
The rear panel includes controls for a high pass filter as well as a three band EQ. The high pass filter can be set to three different frequencies, 45 Hz, 60 Hz and 90 Hz. The low band on the EQ is set to a shelf at 250 Hz which can be boosted or cut 4 dB. The mid-range control is a bell curve that can boost or cut 3 dB at 1.5 kHz. The high frequency is a shelf that can boost or cut 3 dB at 4.5 kHz.
