The FLEA Microphone FLEA49 is is a replica of the 49 tube condenser microphone. All mechanical parts are authentic replicas. The FLEA F7 capsule is FLEA's replica of the legendary M7 capsule. Another important part is the transformer which is an exact replica of the transformer used in the 49. The last crucial part of the mics's electronics is its tube, carefully selected for noise reduction. This mic is fantastic not only for female vocals, but for all sound sources. The full set includes the microphone in wooden box, PSU, and cable.
I never owned the Neumann M49 but always remember the sound when I’ve heard it on a vocal. When Norah Jones came out with the song, “come away with me,” It was my pursuit to find a microphone that would sound like that. Then the flea went on sale and I jumped on it. My, my, am I impressed! I have a nice my collection with some really hefty tube mics and normal assortment of ens for my vocals. Nothing compares to this, mic. It’s so silky on the top end and so beautifully positioned is the mid range and balanced out with that beautiful lush low end. Not crazy about the mount so I put a different mount on it. Other than that, I’ll never look back.
I love this microphone. I've had mine for the last three and a half years, and it's my go-to lead vocal mic. It also sounds great on acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and as a drum room mic. It's got a great cushy warmth, and the high end is smooth, clear, and beautiful. I've had the joy of working with a vintage Neumann M49 in the past, and this mic does a great job of emulating its vibe. Great build quality, too.
