The Manley Dual Mid Band EQ provides mastering-grade midrange control with smooth, musical precision — shaping presence, clarity, and punch without harshness. A passive inductor-based EQ with high-voltage tube makeup gain and custom Manley Iron transformers, built for mix-bus work, mastering chains, and high-end tracking. Handcrafted in California, Manley's Dual Series was designed for recording, mixing, and mastering workflows. Its performance is thorough enough for mastering applications but equally useful on individual sources, stems, instrument buses, and mix buses.
The Dual Main EQ and Dual Mid Band EQ were designed together as a complete analog master-bus EQ system. The Dual Main EQ handles lows and highs; the Dual Mid Band EQ handles the midrange. Together they cover the full frequency spectrum with a coherent, matched character — and the Manley sound throughout.
The Dual Series combines passive filtering, tube makeup gain, custom transformers, and high-headroom analog operation into a complete signal path. The interaction of the filters, boost, and cut overlaps result in highly musical curves — but the components behind the scenes are why these equalizers sound substantial, dimensional, and composed in ways beyond their frequency behavior alone.
The Dual Series uses passive inductor-based networks rather than active gain stages inside the EQ circuit. This approach is less convenient and more expensive to execute well, but it remains one of the reasons passive equalizers continue to be valued by serious engineers. The curves are broad, natural, and interactive — encouraging decisions based on musical relationships rather than isolated frequency problems. The passive networks create tonal changes that remain integrated into the source. Large moves do not automatically sound heavy-handed, and small moves can change the perspective of a mix without calling attention to the tool. The result is equalization that tends to preserve depth, transient behavior, and musical continuity.
Passive EQ networks lose level by design. Restoring that level is central to their sound. The Dual Series uses Manley tube makeup gain stages that benefit from decades of experience building high-end tube equipment. The 5751 input stage and 12BH7 output contribute the dimensionality, harmonic structure, and authority that define the Manley sound. The in-house wound Manley transformers are central to the way these equalizers present low-frequency weight, transient density, and sonic authority. Custom input and output transformers, scrupulously developed and hand-selected for maximum euphonic performance.
Output capability exceeding +30 dBu, 26 dB of output headroom referenced to +4 dBu, and frequency response flat within ±0.1 dB from 20 Hz to 22 kHz. Total response extends from 10 Hz to 70 kHz. Built for modern professional operating levels and the most demanding analog chains.
Front-panel labeling supports both Left/Right stereo operation and Mid/Side processing. No internal matrix is included — the unit integrates with external M/S encoders and decoders, hardware (such as the Manley Mastering Backbone) or DAW-based, allowing independent equalization of the Mid and Side components of a stereo signal.
Updated ergonomics, clearer layouts, and new logos to match. The Dual Series is the first Manley product line to feature the updated brand identity — refined for contemporary professional environments without compromising the circuits that made these designs truly exceptional. Serious mechanical construction, carefully chosen components, satisfying control feel, and a universal switchmode power supply that outperforms the best linear designs available — compatible with all mains voltages worldwide and contributing to the unit's extended headroom and low noise floor. Every Dual Series equalizer is hand-built in California.
