The API 3124V packs four API mic preamps with Hi-Z instrument inputs into a 1U chassis for classic API sound in a compact space. Premium input transformers and API 2520 op-amps deliver rich sonic character, while the optional 3:1 output transformer taps add vintage-style harmonic saturation. Plus, variable output level controls make it easy to optimize gain staging. Throw in front-panel polarity switches, per-channel 48-volt phantom power, and 20 dB pads, and you've got all the options you need for recording, mixing, and live sound.
The API 3124V offers four discrete mic/line/DI preamp channels, each faithfully reproducing the sonic signature of API’s iconic consoles. Each Class A preamp circuit employs legendary API 2520 op-amps for transparent gain with minimal noise. Plus, each channel also features illuminated front-panel switches for engaging the 20 dB pad, toggling 48 V phantom power, reversing polarity, and switching input impedance for hi-Z inputs. The mic preamp outputs provide ideal output impedance for interfacing with modern studio gear. Finally, seven-segment LED meters and classic API Gain and Level knobs complete the look and make the API 3124V 4-channel mic preamp just as straightforward to use as any classic API console.
The proprietary output transformers on the API 3124V feature dedicated transformer tap switches, giving you the option to choose between the standard output and a 3:1 mode with extra windings for additional harmonic saturation. Take advantage of this feature to thicken vocals with vintage-style warmth, fatten up drums, and give an edge to any instrument track. Front-panel switches make it easy to audition the 3:1 transformer tap on the fly, and the variable output level controls allow you to dial in the ideal output level.
Built with the same premium components used in API’s large-format consoles, the 3124V preamp delivers superb, detailed sound with high headroom. Custom mic input transformers and classic 2520 op-amps provide clean gain with very low actual measured noise specs. As for power, the 3124V's ultra-stable phantom power circuitry and low AC power consumption ensure dependable operation in both studio and live applications.
