The Elysia Mpressor 500 brings the heritage of the extremely powerful rack mount mpressor into the 500 series format. Like its bigger brother, the mpressor 500 combines serious punch with a full and detailed class-A sound. Its great tone and flexibility make it an excellent choice for recording and mixing, while its remarkable special features take it far beyond the borders of what normal compressors can do.
Extreme time constants, negative ratios, “antilog” release and Elysia’s innovative gain reduction limiter provide a whole spectrum of unique dynamics shaping options. A new feature of the 500 series module is its switchable THD boost allowing on-the-fly signal coloration and saturation effects capable of delivering a grittier flavor.
Its massive sound, next generation features and its creative approach make the mpressor 500 a truly outstanding tool in the world of dynamics processing – the compressor from the future.
I bought two of these for mixing vocals. I was looking for silky smooth with a nice hard ceiling and wouldn’t get woofy in the 300Hz area. I did get that but a lot more. The Gain Reduction Limiter is an amazing feature! You set the level where the reduction maxes. It acts like a limiter without any extra squash. The Output Gain goes from crystal clear to all out distortion. In fact, I use only ears and no numbers setting this. It’s like working the preamp knob of Marshall amp. I haven’t really tried the negative ratios , anti log or auto fast. It’ll take me a while to find all the tricks inside this box. As for now, they are my go-to vocal VCA compressors.
I’ve been using this on vocals on the way in to catch the peaks. Works perfectly, transparent when I want and the thd boost gives a nice color. The GRL is also a very handy feature. Recommend? Definitely
The Mpressor is an extremely flexible and versatile compressor. I use it while tracking instruments and vocals, just to catch the peaks and apply a bit of overall leveling - usually with a 1.5 to 3.0 ratio set. It totally shines while mixing too, and I never hesitate to use both mono comps on a stereo bus. In fact I had originally intended to pick up the stereo Xpressor at some point, but I love the way the dual mono behaves on a bus. The Mpresssor is extremely transparent when you need it to be, and can really slam when you don’t. Great purchase and I highly recommend.
Loved the UAD-2 plugin, so I jumped at the chance to put a real MPRESSOR in my Lunchbox... Don't know how I lived without it!!! Thanks to Vintage King for the fabulous deal. :-)
It’s not a color piece but I didn’t buy it to be one. What it does, it does incredibly well. I got it while knee deep in an album project so I’ve only had the opportunity to track vocals with it. I needed a clean compressor going in because the mojo will be varying greatly between songs so it needs to be dialed in at mix time. So far the chain has been Rupert Neve Designs 511 > MPressor. The mic has alternated between Warm Audio 251 (a surprisingly good mic) and Neumann TLM-49 (a surprisingly criticized mic).
