Danish Pro Audio (DPA) was formed in 1992 as a result of Bruel & Kjaer closing their Pro Audio division. Two former B & K employees, Morten Stove and Ole Brosted Sorenson began developing their own microphones for high-end recording and broadcast. After enjoying early success with the renowned 4006 Omni mic, the company shifted focus to address a need in the live theater industry for high-quality, clear-sounding and concealable mics.

Teaming up with the groundbreaking hearing aid manufacturer Muphone, the two Danish companies went on to develop the renowned 4060 and 4061 designs. The two companies went on to later merge into the DPA we know today, continuing to develop detailed microphone solutions and garnering several TEC Award nominations throughout the years. With a focus on high-end vocal mics, concealable options, and performance headsets, DPA and its CORE line of products keep a reputation today that garners high acclaim.

In 2017, DPA brought CORE to the market, introducing preamplifier technology for the brand’s miniature microphones that allowed for even higher headroom and lower distortion, providing crystal-clear detail for applications where these mics are subjected to high SPL levels, whilst still maintaining an open, brilliant sound. Expanding CORE technology to instrument mics like the 4099 for saxophone and drums, DPA has developed a range of mics that combine natural, transparent sound with a compact and portable form factor.

Beloved for its omni pickup pattern and astounding transparency, the 4006 built upon designs utilized in the B & K era and helped forge an impressive reputation for DPA. Well suited for a wide range of instrument micing applications, DPA’s award-winning 4099 Series mics have been said to breathe new life into acoustic instruments. Utilizing CORE technology, the 4099 captures sound with honesty while rejecting outside noise and sporting a high gain-before-feedback rating. Available in two configurations, 4099 mics are designed for both loud and extreme SPL levels. A Loud SPL version works great for close-micing of traditional sources like a violin, while the Extreme SPL configuration is optimized for drum applications and other high SPL sources. Regardless of the version, the 4099 Series excels at naturally reproducing the detailed acoustic sound of your instrument.
