DPA d:screet CORE 6061 Mic-Loud SPL MicroDot -Beige
The DPA d:screet CORE 6061 is a subminiature microphone with a cable terminated with a hardwired MicroDot connector. Although it's just 3 mm (0.12 in) in size, it pacls the audio power of DPA's larger, award-winning DPA mics. What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in clarity, consistency and durability – three qualities that really matter. By shrinking CORE by DPA technology, DPA ensure you don't have to compromise on sound to focus on aesthetics. CORE by DPA is a powerful new technology at the heart of DPA miniature microphones. With minimized distortion you will experience increased clarity and openness.
DPA have taken the amazing CORE technology and shrunk it down to fit into their (0.12 in) subminiature mics. This means that, despite their small size, the performance of the d:screet 6061 CORE Subminiature Series is fully comparable to the 5 mm (0.20 in) miniature capsules that are beloved around the globe. These subminiatures have a lower noise floor than any other 3 mm (0.12 in) capsule on the market and they are better able to capture high sound pressure levels without distortion as well. In terms of technical specifications, the d:screet 6061 has a noise floor of only 26 dB(A), which is on par with the 5 mm (0.20 in) DPA miniature capsules.
Advanced new mic design
This tiny capsule has a cap that can be removed for cleaning and should be firmly reattached to the mic body with a firm click that can both be felt and heard. The supplied cap corresponds in its nature to the low-boost grid 5 mm (0.20 in) versions. Both the mic itself plus the cap are made of stainless steel and treated with a Physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating that makes it extremely durable: able to tolerate high temperatures, resilient against impacts and resistant to abrasion. The entire mic has a pleasant matte look due to the coating making the entire headset look smaller and less obtrusive.
The cable is often the weak spot on these types of mics, but we have opted to use the same size cable (Ø 1.6 mm (.06 in)) and the same rugged cable relief as on our 5 mm (0.20 in) mics. The cables are extremely durable, do not become entangled and are equipped with an inner core made of Kevlar that withstands rough pulls. A strain relief is integrated in the mic housing to strengthen the assembly.
The cable and capsule design ensure immunity to noisy wireless devices. These mics are typically connected to a wireless belt pack and DPA offer a comprehensive mix of adapters to suit the many wireless transmitters available. When used with an adapter, the connector is our MicroDot but we also offer hardwired terminations to suit the most popular systems from manufactures such as Shure and Sennheiser. All DPA connectors are equipped with a rugged strain relief.
The CORE Subminiatures are IP58 certified. This durability is achieved through a number of defense mechanisms:
- Water-repellant nano-coating of the cover and housing
- Hermetic sealing of the sensitive amplifier at the core of the mic
- Dual gold plating of the diaphragm
8-position lavalier clip
When used as a lavalier, a special rotatable clip is available. The 360° clip allows the lav to be mounted in eight positions, chosen in 45° incremental steps. This makes it very easy to change from women's to men's shirts (left to right buttoned) or even t-shirts and the like where the neckline is used.
- Amazing 3 mm CORE capsule technology
- Renowned DPA sound in a 60% smaller package
- Stainless steel, PVD-coated mic housing
- Modular adapter system fits most professional wireless systems

The 6061/ 6060 would receive five stars from me if the grid cap did not pop off so easily AND if the grid cap were the same color as the cable wire (in the case of the tan and the white versions of this microphone).
For sound, I am beginning to prefer the 6061 over my 4061 microphones. For the most part, my work in using the DPA microphones is recording sound for film and TV and I typically hide the lav mics rather than use clips on lapels. The 6061 is easier to hide and cuts through better when hidden underneath a layer of clothing, at least that is true to my perception. The 4061 is still a great microphone and I use them interchangeably, but I am really enjoying the extra benefits for easier placement with the 6061.
I read comments somewhere else indicating the 6061 is less vulnerable to wind noise. In my experience, that claim is NOT true. The 6061 is neither more or less susceptible/ vulnerable to wind noise but rather seems to behave on par with my collection of 4060/ 4061 microphones in regard to wind noise.
For my purposes, I hope DPA begins manufacturing brown 6061 mics to fill out their product line with regards to the other colors of mic cabling on the 4061 product line.
The cable length, the flexibility of the cable casing, the so very tiny size of the microphone capsule, the sonic quality, the interchangeability of the microdot with other DPA microphones and the ability to use the 6061 along side my legacy 4061 mics with little appreciable difference make sthe 6061 a very useful addition to my mic locker. I just wish those little grids did not pop off so easily. One needs to be vigilant in ensuring the grids do not slip off, never to be found again.
