A Deeper Look at Dangerous Music

Dangerous Music is a determined team of musicians, studio owners, producers, and engineers who want nothing other than uncompromising analog designs that translate well. The company began in 2001 to answer the demands of computer-based recording studios driven by digital audio workstations. Bob Muller and Chris Muth ventured into Dangerous Music with the mission to design studio equipment based on the changes of the industry and needs of the recording community. Chris’s hi-fi designs have dominated the big studios in New York City since the ‘80s. Via Dangerous, his designs have become essential components in the best modern DAW-based mixing and mastering studios.

  • The Dangerous Music 2-BUS+ analog summing mixer is built around the foundation of the original 2-BUS released in 1999. Their team redesigned the analog summing circuitry for enhanced punch, headroom, and clarity. Transparency is one of the key traits of Dangerous Music, yet engineers still get a tasteful amount of added texture that doesn’t stand in the way of the original sound. The 2-BUS+ is known for its wide soundstage and crystal clear sonic imaging. This summing module uses active electronics, which is far superior to the detrimental amount of make-up gain drawn from passive summing boxes. Like all analog gear from Dangerous Music, only the highest quality audiophile components are used to make the 2-BUS+, Dangerous Music’s embodiment of dedication.

There’s no shortage of Dangerous dynamic processors available. For an EQ that makes everything sound great, consider the BAX EQ. It’s a mastering shelf equalizer based on the Baxandall EQ curves that belonged in hi-fi systems of the 1950s. The Dangerous BAX EQ is the first professional, stand-alone mastering EQ to use the famous Baxandall curves; it’s a classic among mixing, mastering, and recording engineers. The bass and treble shelves found on most professional EQs introduce an undesirable coloration of the original signal. The BAX EQ’s shelves maintain phase coherence, because it’s built from the same ultra-high-grade components used in the Dangerous COMPRESSOR to attain beautiful transparency.

  • In 2002, the original Dangerous Music onboard DAC became the industry reference. The development of the CONVERT series consisted of standalone units inspired by the popularity of the original. This series is designed to go beyond transparency and deliver open, articulate sound by using cutting-edge digital technology and Chris Muth analog circuitry. The Dangerous CONVERT-AD+ combines all these key traits and stands as the most advanced stereo analog-to-digital converter on the market. The CONVERT-AD+, CONVERT-2, and CONVERT-8 offer next-level stereo conversion for stunning sound when mixing, mastering, and recording.

To gain the ultimate level of monitoring control and flexibility, there’s no better way than the Dangerous SR/ST system. The Dangerous ST is a 1U monitor controller with effortless and elaborate signal routing capabilities, while the Dangerous SR seamlessly handles remaining inputs and surround speaker outputs. If you take this route, don’t forget to surround yourself with the best DAC available. The combined system is an award-winning monitoring solution that pairs nicely with DAC units from the CONVERT series. Altogether, integrating multiple Dangerous modules into a unified chain is one of the best ways to work.
