The Daking 500 RS is complete two-channel recording system consisting of a separate Class A mic pre (Daking Mic Pre 500), VCA compressor (Daking Comp 500) and inductor EQ (Daking EQ 500) per channel. The six 500 Series modules come preinstalled and preconfigured in an included API 500-6B Lunchbox. Also included is a custom DB25 jumper cable, chaining the outputs from the preamps into the inputs of the compressors and so forth, creating the ultimate stereo plug-and-play channel strip.
Mic Pre 500
Derived from the company's Mic Pre One freestanding unit, the Daking Mic Pre 500 is designed for installation in 500 Series format equipment. The mic pre features switchable phase, 20 dB mic input pad, +48V phantom power, and a selectable quarter-inch line/hi-z instrument input.
Like the Mic-Pre One, the Mic Pre 500 shares the gain structure and Class A, fully-discrete transistor circuitry design of Daking's popular Mic Pre IV. The front panel controls include a variable high-pass filter (0-200 Hz) as well as continuously variable input gain. It also includes an eight-segment tri-color LED meter with simultaneous VU and Peak is included.
EQ 500
The Daking EQ 500 is an inductor-based parametric equalizer designed for the 500 Series format.
Based on the renowned EQ section of the Daking Mic Pre EQ, its four bands have all the frequencies that a mixing or tracking engineer will typically find to be his or her "go-to" frequencies. Each band has an "out" position, rather than relying on center detent pots, which are typically less accurate than a simple bypass.
Easy to use, and famously "sweet" sounding, the Daking EQ 500 is the perfect addition to your 500 Series rack.
Comp 500
The Daking Comp 500 is a simple to use VCA compressor/ limiter in a 500 Series format. Although it is a VCA, it behaves and sounds much like the FET circuitry found in the other Daking compressors. Relying on his years of experience and testing, Geoff has designed a simple semi-automatic compressor useful for both tracking and mixing.
The compression is set with one knob – less compression or more compression. Attack is switchable between fast and slow, and release is switchable between fast and auto. The compression ratio is about 4:1 (comp) or 20+:1 (limit).
The stereo link is very accurate and can link up to six units if necessary.
