Designed as a central component to the EMI REDD.51 recording console, the original REDD.47 line amplifier was used to amplify virtually every stage of the audio path (mic inputs, line inputs, echo sends and monitors).
The REDD.47 lent its unmistakably punchy, aggressive character to music recorded at Abbey Road Studios between 1964 and 1968, including many tracks by The Beatles.
The Chandler Limited REDD.47 Preamp offers many additional benefits to the original design including increased gain, allowing a range of tonal options from pristine clean sound to classic rich, saturated tone with up to 2% harmonic distortion before clipping. The Chandler Limited REDD.47 pre-amp easily reproduces the distortions heard on The Beatles’ ‘Revolution.’
Chandler Limited’s REDD.47 tube microphone pre-amplifier delivers the legendary sound of Abbey Road Studios’ ‘Holy Grail’ pre-amp, with extra features to meet today’s recording studio standards.
Abbey Road Studios, EMI, REDD and their associated logos are trademarks of EMI (IP) Limited.
This preamp is unmatched. Even when it comes to Neve or API, this thing beats them all tenfold. Based on a V72 preamp that was modified by EMI in the 60s, the REDD.47 has a ton of character- and a ton of edge. It will bring out the midrange on a Coles and open up the top end on a U87 in a way that is truly amazing. Tracks recorded on the REDD.47 always require much less work to fit into a mix- guitar & bass DI require less EQ, vocals don't need de-essing, and overdubs become fun again. It should also be noted that the distortion on this unit is very musical. I've had multiple instances of vocals that were very gently clipping on the REDD.47 and it makes them sound like they were already mixed and polished... basically it makes me sound like I'm better at my job!! Picked this up a few months ago from VK. It's just incredible. Everything I record with it sounds like a record. Wish I could have 8 of them.
Love the character of this! More than a preamp. Very useful. Helps me get to the finish line faster. Love it on guitars vocals bass and rooms. If I could I would have 8 of these and use it on almost everything.
What’s not to love?
My new number one vocal channel. Killer sound.

What a fat, fabulous pre! In our never-ending pursuit of analog warmth and vibe we added a pair of Redd .47 Pre-amps to our existing rack of Neve, BAE, API, Avalon & Universal pres. The addition has been magical in that the REDD.47 sounds like nothing you have and everything you’ve wanted. Its got character, in a great way…that only those EF86, E88CC tubes can create. It makes every mic and source better. You can digitally model all you want, but the only way to get true analog character is with analog gear. Get that sound up front, before it goes in the box…then it’s real. We think the Chandler Limited REDD .47 is the greatest Pre-amp on the planet. B.Freshley- Truphonic Recording
Great sounding pre-amp. Low level 60 cycle hum is is bothersome...Causing me to hesitate purchasing a second unit. I need to troubleshoot or possibly send in for checkout by Chandler or V.K. Great compliment to my Neve 1073 pre-amps.
