So, what's next for Universal Audio modeling mics? The brand has just announced three new releases: the SD-3, SD-5, and SD-7. These dynamic modeling microphones open a whole new world of opportunity and offer ample options for miking drums and other sources.
Check out our First Listen video featuring the Universal Audio SD-3, SD-5, and SD-7 to hear the microphones at work. We used these mics, alongside the SD-1, SP-1, and SC-1, to record tracks with Jordan McGee (Drums), Anthony Vaticalos (Bass), and Kevin Schuck (Guitar). Each instrument has a mini-shootout, showcasing both the raw microphone sound followed by various models.
Universal Audio's SD-3 is a compact cardioid mic tailor-made for capturing fantastic results from your drum kit. The microphone can deftly handle loud sources with the greatest of ease, making it ideal for snares and toms, guitar cabs, and horns. The SD-3 comes with emulations of famous Shure, Sennheiser, and Audix mics models, including the aptly named DN-57, DN-545, DN-604, DN-409U, and DN-4.
