  1. Studio Spotlight: Radio Galactic

    Studio Spotlight: Radio Galactic
At Radio Galactic, his North Chicago studio, John Buehler does a variety of things: film scoring, music projects and immersive sound for apps including his own holographic audio app Naturespace, which provides vividly detailed high-res 3D recordings of natural spaces. There is a common thread that runs through all the work that Radio Galactic does – emotion and well-being. The emotional impact that sound has on the listener (and the creator of the sound) is fundamental to Buehler’s work. Recently, we had the pleasure of chatting with Buehler about his approach to recording nature, what it was like working with Vintage King Audio Consultant James Good while building out his studio, the future of immersive audio and his philosophy on audio production.  Continue reading →

  5. Behind The Scores Of Star Wars

Behind The Scores Of Star Wars
When A New Hope was released in theaters in 1977, its impact quickly became the stuff of pop culture history. Of all the aspects of Star Wars which now feel ubiquitous, the bold opening trumpet fanfare of John Williams’ theme is among the franchise’s most iconic callbacks. Even as Star Wars has branched out with new composers and new stories, the music has remained an integral part of the franchise’s identity. George Lucas first heard the name "John Williams" from his buddy Stephen Speilberg. Williams had just completed the score for Speilberg’s film Jaws, which of course became a huge hit. Williams would go on to both compose and conduct the orchestra for all nine of the Star Wars saga films—a forty-year journey. To celebrate Star Wars Day, we’re taking a look back at the music of Star Wars—specifically, the original trilogy. Read on to learn more about how these iconic scores were recorded and the impact they’ve had on both the series and our culture. May the force be with you! Continue reading →
