Solid State Logic's initial venture into audio interfaces, the SSL 2 and SSL 2+, distilled some of the brand's iconic technology and concepts into a compact, desktop-friendly format at an affordable price. Now, SSL has announced the SSL 2 and SSL 2+ MKII editions, featuring upgraded conversion, preamps, and so much more.

Both SSL interfaces already delivered impressive sound quality, especially for their price point, but with the SSL 2 and SSL 2+ MKII, the brand has pushed audio performance even further. The standout upgrade is the jump to 32-bit/192 kHz converters, providing enhanced fidelity and a wider dynamic range compared to the original 24-bit/192 kHz models.

The SSL 2 and SSL 2+ also feature updated microphone preamps, which now offer 64 dB of gain and 116.5 dB of dynamic range. Each preamp still has its own gain control, level meter, and the popular Legacy 4K circuit, in addition to new indicator lights for phantom power, line input, and high pass filter. Both interfaces also include two auto-detect hi-z/instrument inputs on the front for easy plug-and-play recording.

The differences between the SSL 2 and SSL 2+ remain the same from the first generation to the second. The SSL 2 features one headphone output and two balanced outputs, while the 2+ includes two headphone outputs and four balanced outputs. This allows the 2+ to connect to additional monitors, rackmount gear, pedals, and more for enhanced flexibility.

Vintage King recently visited Plymouth Rock Recording Company to record a track with the SSL 2 interface, featuring Haruki Hakoyama (Engineer, Mix, Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Trumpet) and Nick Small (Vocals, Percussion, Production). Watch our First Listen video below to experience the sound of the SSL 2 in action, and hear a mix that highlights the software suite included with the interface.
