Roland has been shaping the sound of modern music for over 40 years. From the deep boom of the TR-808 to the snap of the TR-909, Roland’s drum machines have powered everything from hip-hop and pop to house and techno. Now, Roland is continuing that legacy with the TR-1000 Rhythm Creator, a new flagship rhythm machine that blends some of the brand’s iconic analog circuits with fresh new features.
The TR-1000 is Roland’s most advanced Rhythm Machine to date. It’s a true hybrid analog/digital drum machine that brings together the best of both worlds: classic analog circuitry and modern flexibility. Tailor-made for modern producers and performers, the TR-1000 combines detailed recreations of classic 808 and 909 sounds with cutting-edge digital sound engines, deep sampling, advanced sequencing, and powerful live performance tools.
Let's dive in and explore what makes the TR-1000 Roland's most advanced rhythm machine ever.
The TR-1000 is Roland's first drum machine in over 40 years to feature a true analog sound engine. By faithfully recreating 16 of the most coveted circuits from the iconic TR-808 and TR-909 with modern components and expanded parameters, Roland has captured the authentic analog sound of the iconic TR series.
The digital side of the TR-1000 opens up a whole new world of sound design possibilities. You’ll find a wide range of tones powered by Roland’s ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior), FM (Frequency Modulation), and PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) engines. Together, these digital voices make it easy to blend classic drum sounds with modern textures, from sharp, synthetic hits to layered percussion and atmospheric effects.
Sampling on the TR-1000 is deep and flexible. You can record in stereo, chop samples non-destructively, and time-stretch loops and one-shots without losing quality.
It’s also possible to record external sounds or resample your own patterns internally, with specialized modes for one-shots and tempo-synced loops. Each instrument can hold up to 16 slices, and every slice can have its own settings for pitch, time-stretch, and more.
The TR-1000 ships with thousands of built-in samples and includes 48 GB of extra space so you can load up your own sounds.
The TR-1000 is a sound designer's dream, offering a massive suite of tools for sculpting unique rhythms. Each instrument features its own dedicated sound generator, multimode filter, amplifier, compressor, modulation section, and effects processing, giving you complete control over every element of your sound.
Tracks 1-4 take things even further by allowing you to mix sounds between two independent layers, creating complex, multidimensional beats with rich textures and depth. Each layer has its own complete processing chain, internal sidechaining, output routing, and a three-target LFO for adding movement and modulation.
Adding another layer of sonic character, the TR-1000 features a dedicated stereo Analog Master FX section with two powerful processors. The newly developed state-variable filter (SVF) is inspired by classic Roland OTA designs, perfect for sweeping highs, carving out lows, or adding movement to your entire mix.
The stereo drive circuit adds rich harmonic saturation and grit, from subtle warmth to full-throttle distortion. With dedicated output routing, you can process your entire mix or send specific tracks through the analog FX chain.
At the heart of the TR-1000 is an advanced sequencer that expands the legendary TR-REC workflow with modern features. The classic 16-step key interface provides an intuitive, hands-on approach to pattern creation, supporting both traditional step programming and real-time recording.
Beyond the 16-step keys and real-time recording, the TR-1000 offers versatile performance tools like per-step probability and motion recording. To dial in the perfect feel, tracks and steps allow for micro-timing adjustments, letting you push or pull hits ahead or behind the beat to create a natural, human pocket.
The TR-1000 is built for the stage as much as the studio. Each knob in the instrument section acts as a macro controller and can be assigned to any parameter. Plus, the innovative Morph fader can control multiple knobs at once, opening up a whole new world of possibilities.
Whether you’re building transitions, adding tension, or creating dramatic moments during a live set, the TR-1000 has the tools you need to get the job done.
Designed for seamless integration into any setup, the TR-1000 offers a host of connectivity options:
To truly bring the TR series into the modern age, the TR-1000 seamlessly integrates with your Mac or Windows computer via the free TR-1000 App. This powerful software companion lets you manage built-in content, control all internal parameters from a large, clear display, import samples, and handle future firmware updates.
The TR-1000 feels like a true celebration of everything Roland has built over the years. It captures the soul of the classic TR series while giving today’s producers the power, depth, and flexibility to shape their own sound. Whether you’re chasing vintage tones, modern punch, or something completely new, the TR-1000 is built to keep your creativity moving.
