Moog Muse 8-Voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

Founded by Dr. Robert Moog in 1953, Moog Music has pioneered several innovative synthesizer designs over the last 70 years. From the early Moog and Minimoog synths to the semi-modular Matriarch and Grandmother, Moog helped define the sound and design of modern synthesizers.

Today, Moog continues to build on its rich history with the new Muse 8-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer. Tailor-made for musicians, producers, and sound designers, Muse combines classic Moog analog circuits with forward-thinking digital controls.

Moog Muse 8-Voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

Moog Muse Eight-Voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

Designed to inspire creativity, Muse is equipped with eight analog voices, each with two VCOs, a modulation VCO, dual VCFs, and a stereo VCA. Muse inherits its sonic legacy from generations of classic vintage Moog circuits, combining discrete oscillators derived from the Minimoog Voyager with the MF-102 Ring Modulator, CP3 Mixer, 902 VCA module, and 904a Filter.

At home in the studio or on the stage, Muse is equipped with intuitive performance-based controls, including a 61-key Fatar keyboard with velocity and channel aftertouch, a left-hand controller with pitch and mod wheels, and a programmable Macro knob. Additional creative tools include a powerful arpeggiator, polyphonic sequencer, and chord memory—but more on that later.

Muse’s most enticing effect might be the new Diffusion Delay processor. Inspired by golden-era vintage digital rack delays, Diffusion Delay offers a unique and powerful set of diffusion, multi-tap, and filter effects for adding dimension and depth to any patch.

As one might expect, Muse’s true beauty cannot be captured with words. In our latest Quick Hits video, Vintage King's Dustin McLaughlin takes the Moog Muse analog synthesizer for a test drive through space and time.

Additional Features

Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s take a closer look at some of Muse’s features.

POWERFUL MODULATION

On the top left side of Muse’s front panel controls, you’ll find two LFOs with customizable waveshapes, plus a dedicated Pitch LFO. There are also assignable envelopes and 16 (per-voice) triggered random generators for creating complex soundscapes.

Muse also features an analog modulation oscillator with a switchable waveform for each voice, plus pre-routed destinations that can be used as a third audio oscillator.

ADVANCED ARPEGGIATOR + SEQUENCER

To the right of the oscillator sections is Muse’s advanced arpeggiator with rhythmic programming, expanded patterns, and generative behavior. Arp settings can be saved as part of a patch with advanced rhythmic sequencing, unique patterns, and easy-to-use controls.

Below the arpeggiator is Muse’s 64-step sequencer, offering a powerful 64-step global sequencer with probabilistic functionality, parameter recording, and more.

VERSATILE PROGRAMMER

When it comes to storage, Muse offers 16 banks of 16 patches for a total of 256 patches. The first 14 banks come fully loaded with preset patches created by musicians, producers, and sound designers at the Moog factory, while banks 15 and 16 are reserved for user patches. Choose from an expansive library of beautiful pads, organic FM plucks, attention-grabbing leads, subterranean basses, stage-oriented key splits, and more.

In addition to patch storage and recall, the Programmer section is also used for modulation mapping, Arpeggiator/Sequencer controls, and editing global settings.

CREATIVE CONTROLS

On the right-hand side, just below the Diffusion Delay processor, you’ll find a few unique creative tools. The Voice Control section can be used to stack or split two independent timbres (per patch) across the keyboard to create layered performance patches. Additional controls include timbre selector, voice allocator, and voice detuning.

The Chord Memory section controls allow you to store a different chord shape for each key, making it easy to play complex chord progressions with the touch of a button.
