Located in the heart of Nashville’s Belmont University, Robert E. Mulloy Studios offers students a world-class studio space to learn the ropes and hone their craft. Home base for junior-level classes that focus on miking and mixing techniques, it’s here where students get hands-on experience in pre-production, tracking sessions, overdubs, editing, and more.
Equipped with a new SSL Origin console and a host of outboard gear including Universal Audio LA-2As, Universal Audio 1176s, DBX 160 and 162s, and a functional vintage AMS RMX16 Reverb, students get the full studio experience when working at REM. Plus, thanks to a rack of Focusrite RedNet audio interfaces, students can remotely tap into audio feeds from other parts of the campus, like the Jonhson Theater, where they host live performances by the music and theater departments.
In our latest Inside Look, we spoke with Michael Janas, Chair and Instructor of Audio Engineering Technology at Belmont University: “This semester went great with the SSL Origin console. Not only does it sound great, which is what was expected, but the functionality was fantastic. We’re able to teach less about the idiosyncrasies of a particular console, and more about production.”
Watch the video below to check out the studio and learn more about the new SSL Origin console that we recently installed.
