In honor of the brand's 20th anniversary, Mojave Audio recently released the MA-200 Cardioid Tube Condenser Microphone Anniversary Edition. To celebrate, we're taking a look back at our visit to Mojave Audio HQ.

In the heart of Burbank, California, a city known for its rich musical heritage, lies the headquarters of Mojave Audio, a revered name in the realm of professional studio microphones. Founded in 1985 by renowned engineer David Royer in his garage, the company has carved a niche for itself with its unwavering commitment to sonic excellence and detailed craftsmanship.

Mojave’s growth from side project to pro audio heavy hitter started in earnest around 2005. Over the preceding decades, David’s private tube mic builds gathered popularity in gear circles, so much so that he decided to officially bring them to the marketplace. To help him do so, producer, engineer, and musician Dusty Wakeman came on board as President and the company began to rapidly expand.

As Mojave added more models to its lineup, David and Dusty linked up with industry veteran Colin Liebich in 2019 and brought him in as a partner. The tight-knit team continues to produce remarkable microphones, including its latest design, the MA-37. This unique take on the classic Sony C-37A won the brand its first TEC Award at the 2023 NAMM Show.

Mojave Audio takes pride in its meticulous manufacturing process, carefully handcrafting each microphone with unwavering attention to detail. From the delicate wiring to the fine-tuning of the diaphragms, every step is executed with precision, resulting in microphones that capture the true essence of any performance.
