When it comes to high-end studio monitoring, Ex Machina Soundworks is quickly becoming a go-to brand for today’s top creators. Founded by a team of passionate engineers and acousticians, Ex Machina has built its reputation on a no-compromise approach to speaker design, where every component is engineered for perfect translation.
Today, that commitment reaches new heights with the launch of two groundbreaking studio monitors and two purpose-built subwoofers. The Terra and Selene monitors, alongside the Gravity and Poseidon subwoofers, create a complete monitoring ecosystem designed for modern stereo, immersive, and post-production workflows.
Ex Machina's latest release represents a complete overhaul of the brand’s monitoring lineup. The new Terra and Selene systems replace the company's previous models, from the compact Titan through the flagship Quasar line, bringing a fresh approach to modular monitor design and system integration.
At the core of the new ecosystem is a shared software platform that allows every speaker and sub to connect to the same control environment, making systems fully mix-and-matchable in one window. The new suite adds remote control, system monitoring and metering, Dante and AES3 connectivity, and integrated room EQ.
Now that the introductions are out of the way, let's dive into what makes each of these new monitors and subs special.
Ex Machina co-founder and lead designer Dev Avidon calls the brand’s new Terra monitors “the best sounding monitor Ex Machina has ever made.” Described as the perfect “Goldilocks” monitor, Terra sits between the compact new Selene monitors and larger main speakers designed for far-field monitoring.
This three-way coaxial design delivers an impressively flat frequency response from 40 Hz all the way up to 30 kHz. While most monitors lose focus off-axis, blur transients at crossover points, or let cabinet resonance color the sound, Terra solves these problems at the system level with phase-coherent crossovers, controlled dispersion, and a cabinet that simply stays out of the way.
Ideal for tracking, mixing, mastering, music production, and film or game audio, Terra works as a complete full-range system on its own, with optional Gravity subwoofers available for deeper low-end extension and higher max SPLs.
Gravity is a passive subwoofer pair designed exclusively to extend the Terra monitoring system. Powered directly from Terra’s rear panel amplification, Gravity integrates as a single unified system with no external amps, no bass management processors, and no phase-alignment guesswork.
Using a zero-phase LR4 crossover at 80 Hz, Gravity extends Terra's response down to 30 Hz linear (F6 at 20 Hz) while boosting system headroom to 112 dB at 1 kHz. The compact, side-firing design lets you place Gravity alongside Terra, preserving stereo bass accuracy while minimizing unwanted reflections.
Terra sounds great on its own, but Gravity is there when you need deeper extension or higher SPL for film work, immersive content, or larger control rooms.
The perfect entry point to Ex Machina’s new modular monitor system, Selene is a compact coaxial speaker designed for immersive, surround, and ATMOS workflows.
While many immersive systems rely on stripped-down satellite speakers for surround and height channels, Selene uses the same coaxial design, calibration process, and phase-coherent approach as Ex Machina’s primary monitors, ensuring balanced, consistent sound.
Powered by the external EXCore amplifier and DSP unit, Selene makes it easy scale up to multi-channel configurations. And while it shines in immersive setups, Selene also works beautifully as a high-performance stereo nearfield monitor.
When paired with Ex Machina’s new Poseidon subwoofers, Selene creates a powerful three-way monitoring system that rivals speakers twice their size and price.
Last but not least in the new lineup, Poseidon is Gravity's compact counterpart, designed specifically to extend the Selene monitoring system. Like Gravity, Poseidon is a passive subwoofer that integrates through Selene's EXCore unit amplifier.
Just like with the Terra and Gravity, this integration is seamless. The EXCore handles all the crossover, phase alignment, and calibration. It provides the deep low-frequency extension needed for full-range immersive mixing, all without adding any complexity to your setup.
