The Fairchild 670 isn't the only coveted compressor / limiter getting a reissue in 2023, as Eventide has just announced something special at the 2023 AES convention in New York. The storied brand has just launched a 50th anniversary version of its classic Omnipressor 2830.

Originally released in 1973, the Omnipressor was invented by Eventide founder Richard Factor (later redesigned by Jon Paul), and was the first compressor / limiter to feature sidechain functionality. With a manual that read “Your Omnipressor Loves You and Wants to be Your Friend… please read this Applications section before blaming your Omnipressor for malfeasance or deviltry,” the comp / limiter had a lot to offer engineers, including "unusual capabilities" like dynamic reversal, gate, expansion, controlled centered, limiting, and infinite compression.

For the 50th anniversary Omnipressor, Eventide is going all out with a limited edition recreation. The brand is employing the original hand-drawn schematics and utilizing the same circuitry to create a faithful replica. The new Omnipressor 2830 Au model will feature the ability to link multiple units together, input and output transformers, a universal power supply, and a back-lit meter. There are also more assessable TRS/XLR connectors.

Learn about the functions and features of the Eventide Omnipressor 2839Au below and stay tuned for even more info.

50th Anniversary Eventide Omnipressor 2839Au Compressor / Limiter Features:

- Dynamics Processing: Capable of creating otherworldly sounds

- Dynamic Reversal: The first of its kind, soft signals come out loud and loud signals come out quiet, simulating tape reversal, a near unique attribute of this versatile compressor

- Function Control: Sets a ratio over a continuous range allowing extreme expansion, to infinite compression, and is even able to push further into dynamic reversal

- Variable Control of attack and release time

- Variable Control of maximum gain and maximum attenuation

- Side Chain allows the level detect of the Omnipressor to be driven by another audio source

- Gating: Amplitudes of signals that fall below a set threshold are ‘squooshed’

- Expansion: Widen a signal’s dynamic range, louder gets louder, softer gets softer

- Compression offers variable control of compression ratio

- Infinite Compression: If you want everything to come out at the same level, this is the feature for you

- Limiting: A fast, versatile limiter, useful for maintaining a loud sound

- Intuitive Interface: Clean and easy to operate
