Revisiting The Tegeler Audio Creme For Compression And EQ
Tegeler Audio has been around for several years, but the company is relatively new to Vintage King. After checking out the German brand's Creme bus compressor and mastering EQ, we knew we had to do a demo to show off this beautiful piece of gear. The concept for the Creme is simple. Tegeler Audio was looking to give mix engineers all of the tools needed for compression and EQing a track in one simple package. And what a package it is, as this 2U rack space unit has a really attractive blue patina faceplate with classic chicken head control knobs. Continue reading →

    Vintage King Workflow: Beau Burchell
While Beau Burchell is prominently known for being the founder and guitarist of Saosin, the Orange County native has also been working as a producer and engineer for nearly his entire music career. He's produced and mixed many punk and post-hardcore classics including The Bronx' self-titled debut, The Bled's Pass The Flask, and If There Is Light, It Will Find You from Senses Fail. When deciding where to build out his next studio space, Beau opted for the confines of his home garage. The room is truly a swiss army knife for recording and mixing, as it features an amp wall, drum kit, buildable vocal booth with descending top, and a rig centered around the Antelope Audio Orion 32 HD Gen 3 interface. Meris Hedra 500 Series Offers Rhythmic Pitch Shifting For Your Lunchbox
Before Meris began making some of the most cutting edge pedals in the industry, the brand actually got its start with a handful of 500 Series releases. The latest creation from Meris sees them returning to form with the Hedra 500 Series. For those who are wondering, this is the same 3-voice intelligent pitch shifter that was released in pedal form and made my list of the hottest releases of 2019. The new 500 Series version accels with pro audio grade components and is ideal for both tracking and mixing during your next session. Continue reading →

Five Favorite Features Of The Chase Bliss Audio Blooper Pedal
It all began in 2018, as Joel Korte of Chase Bliss Audio started the design process of a revolutionary looper pedal. He let the world in on the secret via a Kickstarter campaign that was overwhelmingly funded by rabid pedal heads. To say that anticipation has been high is an understatement, and while the journey has felt like a long one, we've finally reached the summit. The Chase Bliss Audio Blooper pedal is in our hands and it was worth the wait. Continue reading →

In this video, we put the Bus-Comp up against the TK Audio BC1-THD, Overstayer Stereo Voltage Control, Dangerous Music COMPRESSOR, and SSL Stereo Bus Compressor, so you can hear how each of them perform in different scenarios. We tested each compressor on the drum bus, both in solo and with the mix, as well as on the mix bus. Although each compressor has its own unique sound and features, we used the same settings on each one to help you hear the differences. Continue reading →

Exploring The Digital Control And Analog Sounds Of The McDSP APB-16 Processing Box
Just over a year ago at the 2019 NAMM Show, plug-in purveyors McDSP announced they would be releasing a new 19-inch rackmount processing box. Dubbed the APB-16, McDSP's innovation gives users digital control via plug-ins over analog processing that is actually happening inside the physical unit itself. Integrating the McDSP APB-16 into your rig is as simple as connecting via Thunderbolt to your computer. From there, you can process up to 16 mono (or eight stereo channels), and if that's not enough, you can daisy chain five APB-16s together for a grand total of 80 channels. Working with the processors is extremely easy, as you're able to save pre-sets and recall session settings in mere seconds. Continue reading →

How Does The New AMS RMX16 500 Series Compare To A Vintage RMX16 And Plug-In Emulation?
By now you've heard the fantastic news that AMS Neve has revived the beloved RMX16 for the 500 Series rack. The new module was the talk of the NAMM Show in January and had pro audio lovers speculating just how close AMS Neve would get to the original unit. Newsflash! They don't disappoint. The 500 Series version of the RMX16 follows suit with the classic nine reverb programs (plus nine rare aftermarket programs) and allows users to control all parameters in three distinct ways. Dialing in the perfect reverb for your source is possible by way of the pot control section (a rotary dial), the nudge section (Down/Up buttons), and Alphanumeric keypad entry. How does it sound though? Continue reading →
