Founded by legendary engineer Klaus Heinz and his son, mastering engineer Dr. Frederik Knop, HEDD Audio has centered its entire product line around one idea: the most accurate, honest, and dynamically responsive monitoring possible.
The brand’s custom Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters, advanced DSP, and careful engineering give you a true picture of your mix, whether you’re working in a bedroom studio or a world-class control room. In this guide, we break down the full HEDD lineup so you can find the right speakers, subs, or headphones for your setup.
HEDD Audio launched in 2015, but the team behind it has been shaping studio sound for decades. Before starting HEDD, founder Klaus Heinz spent over 40 years designing high-end loudspeakers, creating innovative ribbon-style tweeters, and pioneering AMT technology for professional monitoring.
After co-founding ADAM Audio and helping bring folded-ribbon tweeters into mainstream studio design, Heinz launched HEDD Audio with a renewed focus on transient accuracy, ultra-low distortion, and truly linear frequency reproduction.
Early HEDD monitors stood out for their custom-designed AMT tweeters and modular Input Card System, but the arrival of MK2 monitors and BASS Series subs introduced powerful new DSP features, including linear-phase FIR filters and the unique CoP (Closed or Ported) technology, allowing engineers to switch between ported and sealed performance with the push of a button.
Today, HEDD’s lineup spans everything from compact nearfields to mastering-grade tower mains and some of the most detailed audiophile headphones ever built. Let’s take a look at some of the brand’s most popular products.
The Tower Mains Standard is a full-range, high-output monitoring system built for the most demanding environments. Comprised of one TM 80 main unit and one TMS 36 subwoofer, each tower features four 9-inch subs, two 7-inch woofers, two 4-inch midrange drivers, and HEDD’s signature Air Motion Transformer tweeter for crystal-clear imaging.
With powerful Class D amplifiers and careful crossover design, the Tower Mains deliver a reference-grade listening experience suited for large control rooms, mastering studios, and post-production stages.
Available in Gloss Black and Dark Grey Matte, the Extended version takes the Tower system even further by adding a second TMS 36 subwoofer for even more low-end reinforcement. Ideal for high-SPL environments and immersive multichannel workflows.
The Type 07 MK2 (also available in white) is one of HEDD’s most popular nearfields, offering a powerful combination of clear highs, punchy lows, and built-in DSP for room tuning. With linear-phase filters and switchable Closed or Ported modes, the Type 07 MK2 adapts effortlessly to small and medium-sized studios.
The flagship MK2 three-way monitor (also available in white) brings a dedicated 4-inch midrange driver into the equation for improved imaging and transient response. Dual 7-inch woofers deliver controlled low-end, while the AMT tweeter delivers the signature detail and clarity HEDD monitors are known for. For engineers who want the benefits of a three-way system without stepping up to Tower Mains, the Type 30 MK2 hits the sweet spot.
A compact three-way monitor designed for smaller rooms, the Type 20 MK2 offers many of the same advantages as the Type 30 but in a more space-friendly form factor. The dedicated midrange driver provides impressive clarity for vocals and dialogue, making it a great fit for post-production editors, mix engineers, or producers who want three-way accuracy in a nearfield setup.
The A-CORE monitors offer the same AMT tweeters and build quality as the MK2 line, but without digital processing. They’re ideal for engineers who prefer an all-analog workflow or use an external room correction system.
This analog version of the beloved Type 07 features the same high-resolution AMT tweeter and 7-inch woofer, powered by a newly optimized A-CORE amplifier for improved efficiency and imaging. It provides tight low-end, excellent transient response, and a natural top-end.
The standard Type 05 A-CORE is a reliable choice for small studios. The Type 05 A-CORE features a 5-inch woofer and AMT tweeter combo that performs far above its size.
The Edition X update introduces a number of improvements to the original Type 05 design, including enhanced drivers, optimized amplifier performance, and upgraded internal components.
With a 12-inch long-throw driver, 700-watt amplifier, and integrated DSP system, the BASS 12 delivers clean and controlled low-end. It features the brand’s signature phase linearization, delay control, and Closed or Ported s, making it the ideal complement to MK2 and A-CORE monitors in stereo or immersive rooms.
The BASS 08 is a smaller sub that still packs plenty of punch. It’s a great match for Type 05 and Type 07 setups and includes the same DSP tools as the BASS 12. Despite its compact size, it delivers impressive punch and definition, extending the low-end response of nearfield systems without overwhelming smaller rooms.
HEDDphone TWO is the second generation of HEDD’s groundbreaking AMT headphone design. Featuring a redesigned full-range AMT driver and improved transient response, the TWO brings speaker-like realism to a portable format.
The original HEDDphone introduced the world to full-range AMT technology in a headphone, offering stunning clarity, powerful low-end, and impressive imaging. Its precise response and comfortable design have made it a go-to for engineers who need a reliable pair of reference headphones.
The GT edition builds the HEDDphone TWO with premium materials and improved ergonomics. Built for long listening sessions, the GT’s upgraded headband and cushions provide long-lasting comfort while maintaining the same world-class sonic accuracy found across the HEDDphone family.
