DPA Microphones offers a wide range of versatile condenser mics for the studio and the stage. The brand first found success in recording studios with its 4006 omnidirectional microphones, before developing the popular 4060 and 4061 lavalier microphones for theater productions.

In recent years, DPA’s modular instrument mics have caught the attention of recording and front-of-house engineers looking for honest, authentic sound. With a variety of capsules compatible with the ultra-transparent MMP-A and compact MMP-C preamps, these flexible mics can be tailored to suit any situation.

In this buyer’s guide, you’ll learn about the differences between each of DPA’s microphones and their customization options. But before we break down the brand’s extensive catalog, let’s take a quick look at how DPA came to be.

A Brief History Of DPA Microphones

Danish Pro Audio (DPA) was founded in 1992 following the closure of Bruel & Kjaer's Pro Audio division. Former B&K employees, Morten Stove and Ole Brosted Sorenson took this opportunity to embark on developing their own high-end microphones for recording and broadcast purposes.

Their journey began with a remarkable success story, the 4006 Omni mic, which quickly gained a stellar reputation. However, recognizing an unmet need in the live theater industry for high-quality, clear-sounding, and discreet microphones, DPA shifted its focus.

Collaborating with Muphone, a pioneering hearing aid manufacturer, the two Danish companies created the iconic 4060 and 4061 models. This partnership eventually led to a merger, forming the DPA we know today.

Over the years, DPA has continued to innovate, producing detailed microphone solutions that have earned numerous TEC Award nominations. With a strong emphasis on high-end vocal mics, discreet instrument mics, and performance headsets, DPA’s CORE line of products maintains a reputation for excellence and high acclaim in the audio industry.
