All of us here at Vintage Kind have dreamt of owning one rare vintage piece of studio gear or another, but with availability low and costs high, it remains a dream for most of us. That’s why we decided to revive one of our favorite vintage microphones.
The Vintage King Audio Large Badge U47 tube condenser microphone is the world's first replica of the rare "large badge" Neumann U47 tube mics from 1949. Featuring a large nickel badge and painstakingly sourced components, the Vintage King Large Badge U47 faithfully recreates the look and sound of the earliest U47 microphones.
Designed in collaboration with Andreas Grosser's Elektronik Service and based on original Neumann schematics, this U47 features a VF14ER tube developed by Andreas Grosser, a Siegfried Thiersch Mylar M7 capsule, and a custom HAUFE GN107 transformer.
Speaking of vintage mic recreations, Warm Audio’s new WA-44 ribbon microphone has been a huge hit this year.
A faithful replica of the iconic RCA-44 ribbon microphone, the WA-44 pairs a custom-crafted Japanese ribbon with a heavy-duty Neodymium magnet and a USA-made CineMag transformer to deliver true-to-vintage tone with added durability
Designed to capture the warm, sultry sound that defined the RCA 44 in the 1930s, the WA-44 excels on louder audio sources, offering lush midrange, powerful bass, and a smooth top end that tames unwanted harshness. Its tight figure-8 polar pattern reduces side noise, making it ideal for vocals, horns, drums, and acoustic instruments.
While not a recreation of a rare vintage mic, the Sennheiser MD 421 Kompakt is a fresh take on a classic mic originally released in the 1960s. Although the classic MD 421 II is still in production, the new MD 421 Kompakt delivers the same performance as the original in a compact, multipurpose package with a redesigned mounting clip.
This year, Universal Audio made three additions to the brand’s best-selling Standard Series mics with the new SD-3, SD-5, and SD-7 dynamic modeling microphones. Each of these mics is designed to handle high-SPL sources, making them perfect for drums and other instruments.
The SD-3 excels with snares and toms, the SD-5 is built for kick drums and bass-heavy sources, and the SD-7 focuses on toms. All three come with emulations of renowned mics, broadening creative possibilities for engineers and producers alike.

One of the hottest products at AES this year was the new BURL BLACK Series daughter cards and Mothership 3 modular converter system. The perfect solution for recording musicians, project studios, and professional facilities in need of high-channel-count recording systems, BURL’s new Black Series daughter cards deliver the same exceptional performance as the brand’s flagship GREEN line at a more accessible price point.
BURL BLACK retains the core elements that BURL Audio is known for—discrete, Class A, transformer-coupled analog circuitry for ADCs and discrete op-amp outputs for DACs. However, the BLACK line is designed with higher channel density, offering more channels per card at a lower cost.
BURL Black Series daughter cards require the new Mothership 3 chassis, which unlocks the full potential of the brand’s modular converter system. With the B80 and B16 Mothership 3 systems, up to 64 channels of I/O are possible per daughter card slot.
