Here at Vintage King, we love gear—especially vintage gear. There’s nothing quite like the rush of cracking open a box to discover a piece of music history. It’s why we get out of bed in the morning. But even after 30 years, every once in a while, we come across something truly remarkable that reminds us of why we do this in the first place.

Recently, Vintage King was lucky enough to purchase a massive collection of pristine vintage studio gear from a longtime customer, which dates all the way back to 1993—the same year Vintage King was founded. This once-in-a-lifetime find includes dozens of classic preamps, EQs, compressors, microphones, and more—a one-of-a-kind collection that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world.

A Massive Vintage Gear Collection Returns Home

Over the last few decades, Fred Baker has been amassing an impressive collection of vintage recording gear in his private home studio in Montana, much of which he purchased from Vintage King—some directly from our owners Mike and Andy back in the 1990s! When Fred recently made the decision to retire, he wanted to sell his gear collection to someone he could trust to give each piece the respect it deserves, which is why he called Vintage King.

Of course, we couldn't be more excited to help bring this gear to a new generation of engineers and studio owners. And without a doubt, this is one of the largest vintage and used purchases we've ever made. The gear arrived in two crates, both filled to the brim with vintage gear. Each piece was carefully wrapped for shipping and packaged in small boxes. Take a look at a few pics of our team unboxing this collection at the Vintage King Tech Shop.

The Vintage King Tech Shop is home to a unique team of sonic preservationists who work tirelessly to service and restore our incredible selection of vintage and used recording gear. To earn the “Vintage King Certified” stamp of approval, each piece of gear is put through our rigorous industry-leading servicing process. Our team works to test, analyze, service, and retest gear before it ever leaves the shop.

Here’s a quick look at some of the incredible pieces from Fred’s collection that our team in the Tech Shop has been working on, including; Neve 1066, 1073, 1084, and 32264a modules; Neumann KM 54, KM 64, KM 84, M 49, and U47 microphones; a few rack’s worth of preamps from Telefunken, Universal Audio, and RCA; plus, a fully-laded BCM10 console frame!
