Warm Audio Introduces New WA-MPX Tube Preamps

Known for recreating classic studio gear at affordable prices, the folks at Warm Audio have just announced the new WA-MPX and WA-2MPX preamps, inspired by the legendary 351-style tube preamplifier found in American tape machines during the golden era of recording. This preamp was instrumental in shaping the sound of rock ‘n’ roll and was used on countless hits by artists like Elvis Presley, Les Paul, and Bing Crosby.

The new single-channel WA-MPX and stereo WA-2MPX offer an impressive 300c of raw power and 90 dB of tube gain for clear, detailed recordings. Or crank up the gain and saturate the tubes to capture the classic sound of your favorite vintage recordings. Each preamp is hand-assembled with three premium tubes per channel, paired with custom-wound true-to-spec USA CineMag transformers to faithfully reproduce the analog tone of the original.

The “Tape Sat” switch utilizes discrete analog components to deliver a mix of compression, saturation, and non-linear frequency response that authentically emulates the reel-to-reel sound at 15IPS. The preamp also includes hi-pass (80Hz) and low-pass (2kHz) filters to refine tone, allowing you to further shape and focus your sound, and dial in the ultimate midrange warmth and punch.

To ensure the highest quality, each WA-MPX preamp is hand-inspected and tested by trained engineers and musicians with a passion for helping you sound your best. The preamp also features a classic Warm Audio tone control that alters the input transformer impedance, adding extra analog color. It has a high-gain control for an added 20dB (from 70dB to 90dB) of clean gain for low-output mics and low-volume sources.

Tailor-made for modern studios, the WA-MPX provides an array of I/O options, with inputs for XLR mic, TS instrument, and TRS line, and outputs for XLR and TRS line level. It also includes a VU meter level indication and an aluminum faceplate, steel chassis, and vintage bakelite-style knobs.

Finally, each WA-MPX unit is hand-inspected and tested at Warm Audio Headquarters in Austin, Texas, by trained engineers and musicians with a passion for helping you sound your best.
