Throughout the past year, there have been many changes in the way users purchase their Avid Pro Tools software. We covered the pricing updates that the company released in July and offered up ideas on the best way to take advantage right here on our blog.
Now, before 2019 is in the books, Avid is once again changing things up. If you're a Pro Tools user that has been waiting to upgrade, Avid's latest announcement will be of the utmost importance to you.
How Avid Pro Tools Purchasing Has Traditionally Worked
Avid has traditionally sold “renewals” for Pro Tools perpetual license holders that continue to keep their support plans active. The 1-year active plan allows the user to download the latest and greatest version of Pro Tools and features as they are released. Avid offers more expensive “reinstatements” for perpetual license holders that have let their support plans expire.
What's Changing With How Avid Pro Tools Is Purchased
Avid is discontinuing the sale of reinstatements on Dec 31st, 2019. After these reinstatements are no longer available for purchase, you will have to consider either purchasing a perpetual to subscription cross-grade or purchasing a brand new Pro Tools license.
What's The Silver Lining Of This Change To Avid Pro Tools
Avid is now offering these reinstatements on promo, so you can stock up and not have to worry about letting this change affect you for years to come. The price of Pro Tools Ultimate reinstatement has dropped from $999 to $599, and the regular Pro Tools reinstatement has changed from $299 to $199.
Lastly, it’s important to note that Pro Tools renewals are NOT going away. You’ll still be able to keep up with the latest and greatest as normal. Vintage King Audio also goes above and beyond to reach out to our customers to automatically remind them when their renewal is coming up.
