Earlier today, Avid announced the latest update to their industry-standard Pro Tools and Pro Tools | Ultimate software. The Pro Tools 2019.5 update boasts a plethora of new features, including an increase in voice limit for Pro Tools | Ultimate users, added support for macOS Mojave and new options for a more streamlined workflow.

In this blog, we’re breaking down what's new for Pro Tools 2019.5 so you know exactly what to expect when updating your software. If you have any questions about what Pro Tools is right for you, check out our handy guide by clicking here. If you already have Pro Tools with the Support Plan, you will automatically be able to download the upgrade for free.

Create and Mix with More Voices
In the early days of recording, engineers were often limited to just 8 tracks. In 2019, Pro Tools | Ultimate users can create massive sessions with up to 384 simultaneous audio tracks with just the software alone. Previously, Pro Tools users were capped at 256 voices — that’s a 50% increase!

Perfect for robust post-production sessions, intricate pop productions, and reviewing sessions in multiple rooms without being tethered to a Pro Tools | HDX system, Pro Tools 2019.5 makes it easier than ever to create complex productions.

And if that’s not enough, you can get up to 768 voices by adding native voice packs or Pro Tools | HDX cards. Purchase up to six voice packs for extra voices, ranging from 128 additional mono audio tracks at 48 kHz, or four additional 7.1 audio tracks at 192 kHz. Or, install up to three HDX cards in your Pro Tools | HDX system, with up to 384 extra voices per card.

MORE MIDI!
Audio tracks aren’t the only thing getting an upgrade, as Pro Tools 2019.5 supports 1,024 MIDI tracks, up from 512. Use the included virtual instruments or some of your favorite third-party plug-ins to create complex soundscapes without having to stress about bouncing stems. Craft film scores, sample libraries and richly orchestrated pop productions with full articulation.

Don’t Stop the Music
Artists and producers know that the river of creativity never stops flowing. Inspiration often strikes while listening back to a track, which is what makes it so painful every time Pro Tools stops playback every time you try to execute a new idea. Thankfully, those days are over.

With Pro Tools 2019.5, you can interact with tracks and timeline selections during playback without interruption. Experiment with different effects, presets, loop points, and more without stopping your creative flow.

  • Create or delete tracks
  • Enable or disable tracks
  • Add a preset to a track
  • Insert, move, or remove plugins
  • Insert, move, or remove sends
  • Make changes to your I/O
  • Record-enable and disable tracks
  • Adjust start and end points of a loop or timeline selection
  • Move an entire loop or timeline selection

Stay Organized
Engineers worldwide know the struggle of opening a session full of tracks named Audio_01. With Pro Tools 2019.5, you can quickly and easily name tracks as you create them. Name multiple tracks in one fell swoop, or title tracks as you go. And if you get swept up in the moment and forget to name a track, Pro Tools will still assign it a name based on the type of track.

Pro Tools 2019.5 makes it easier than ever to organize your whole team from multi-room post-production studios to broadcast facilities and even educational institutions. Pro Tools Multiseat License includes the Avid Complete Plugin Bundle, plus HEAT, Pro Tools | MachineControl, and Pro Tools | DigiLink I/O License with all Pro Tools | Ultimate seats.

This server-based PACE floating license not only makes administering licenses faster and easier, and reduces licensing complexity and eliminates the need for iLoks across your facility.

Unlimited Projects for Pro Tools | First
Annual subscribers and perpetual license owners aren’t the only ones getting some love with this Pro Tools update! Pro Tools | First users can now create and save unlimited projects to their computers. Choose up to three projects to sync to the cloud for your next collab session, and change them at any time.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Avid Pro Tools 2019.5 is packed with tons of powerful tools for professional audio engineers.
