First Listen: Moog Grandmother Synthesizer

Prior to Moogfest 2018, Moog Music announced the launch of a new synthesizer, the Moog Grandmother. This semi-modular synthesizer features a built-in arpeggiator, sequencer and spring reverb tank, allowing both novices and synth enthusiasts the ability to use the instrument straight out of the box.

Moog's latest synth features two analog oscillators with four wave shapes each and a hard sync option that lets you sync the second oscillator to the first. These oscillators are based on the version in the Moog MiniMoog. The synthesizer features an easy-to-use arpeggiator and sequencer, which can store up to three sequences with up to 256 notes each.

Made to be compatible with Moog's Mother-32, DFAM and other modular systems, the Grandmother features 41 patch points with 21 inputs, 16 outputs and a parallel-wired 4-jack mult. The options are truly endless with what you can do when pairing the Grandmother to other semi-modular and modular synths.

Perhaps one of the most unique elements of the Grandmother is the built-in spring reverb tank. Based on Moog's 905 module, this spring reverb tank is a welcome addition back into the modular world, having only been used recently in the rerelease of Moog's IIIp unit.
