Over the past few months, you may have noticed some things changing around Vintage King. We have a new logo, a slick-new website, and many other updates. Our recently-launched rebrand project is the culmination of over twelve months of exhaustive research, design, and deep thinking.

Why did we do it?

We’ve grown so much as a company over the past 25 years. What started as a side business out of the back of our Detroit, Michigan recording studio in 1993, has become so much bigger than my brother and I could have ever dreamed. In 2016, we started talking a lot about our future. We had some ambitious goals and were working hard to reach them.

Our driving mission was (and still is) to create the best pro audio shopping experience in the world. But throughout all of these exciting conversations, many of us felt like the Vintage King brand wasn’t feeling as fresh as it once had. We wanted our brand to be an extension of our vision and a reflection of the passion of our customers — to capture the feeling we had in the studio, making music with our friends.

We began by interviewing and surveying employees, customers, leadership and anyone else we could. We wanted to know what they loved about Vintage King and what they thought could be improved upon. The design team put up large pin boards peppered with inspirational imagery which became places for impromptu idea sessions with team members from around the company. The design process was intensive — everything from business cards to logos to a completely-new website would be needed for the launch.

It was not easy, but we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.

Here are some of the things people ask us about most:

  • The name was simplified. “Audio” had long been associated with the name, but never really used. So we decided to strike it. The result feels stronger and more focused.
  • The logo was the hardest piece to design. We spent many hours sketching and designing many different ideas options, but we always came back to the vacuum tube. It represents VK’s roots and what makes us different. We made it upright, streamlined the design work inside the tube and added a bit of color to bring it to life.

  • The Pro Audio Outfitter tagline is about our dedication to our customers. To us, it isn’t about a single purchase, it’s about the larger journey that each of them is on. It’s our job to be their trusted guide and resource. We want to give each and every customer the best possible expertise, gear and service. It’s what keeps many of our first customers coming back after all these years.

Thank you to everyone that has been on this journey with us over the years. From our customers, vendors, and other partners, a HUGE thank you — we truly couldn’t have done it without you!

At 25 years young, we feel like we’re just getting started.
