The BAE 500C, a 500 series module based off of the classic FET compressor designs of the 60s and 70s we’ve all come to love. The 500C is hand-wired in California to ensure the highest possible quality possible. Very simple controls for such a huge sound, Input, Output, Attack, Release and Ratio.

Input controls the signal to the compressor from the preamp, driving the input will engage the threshold to begin compression and could result in pleasing harmonic overdrive.

Output is used to send the desired amount of signal to your DAW or tape machine. If the signal is too hot due to driving the input of the compressor, you can use this as an attenuator. If the source material is too quiet after recording, you can use the output as a make-up gain to hit your DAW or tape machine at the optimal level.

Attack will control the length of time for the compression to engage after the signal crosses the threshold. Slower attacks will result in smoother, more transparent compression. A quick attack will result in more aggressive, pumping sounding compression.

Release is how long the compression will stay engaged after the signal crosses the threshold. A fast attack will result in a more transparent compression, a slow attack will maintain a low dynamic, very even sounding recording.

Ratio determines how many decibels will be removed from the dynamic range after the threshold is crossed.

This compressor is great for taming peaks of dynamic vocals, bass guitar, electric guitar, aggressive drums, percussion, and acoustic instruments, but can also add a lot of analog warmth, even if no compression is engaged.
