Avid D-Control Surround Panner Option

Gain powerful and convenient surround sound panning control right from the center section of your D-Control ES console. Whether you mix music or post-production sound, the Avid D-Control Surround Panner provides an ergonomic method for moving sound throughout the surround field. Plus, its custom assignment capabilities enable you to use the touchscreen or joysticks to manipulate plug-in parameters in creative new ways.

Simply mount the D-Control Surround Panner into the preconfigured bay within your D-Control ES console’s center section, and you’re ready to go. With its centralized location, you can now place sounds accurately and fine-tune them without leaving the monitoring sweet spot.

The D-Control Surround Panner offers intuitive controls for easy fingertip operation. Move sound around using the touchscreen, dual joysticks, or encoders. Control divergence — the amount that sound spreads to neighboring speakers — with a fingertip on the touchscreen or encoder. And use the onscreen soft buttons for linking, target selection, mode selection, and other often-needed controls.

Touch the onscreen speaker icons on the touchscreen to place sounds at single speaker sources, and then enter “snap” automation moves anywhere in the panning field. The high-resolution color LCD gives you rich visual feedback of your pan positions and other onscreen functions.

Use the two touch-sensitive joysticks for a more familiar means of physical panning. Move the joystick cursor near the current location cursor, or take over directly by pressing a Punch button to begin panning. Fine-tune the control of any targeted parameter using the two encoders with 15-segment LED rings. And access parameters and assign targets easily using the cluster of hardware and onscreen buttons.

If you work in post, sound design, or music mixing, the D-Control Surround Panner gives you some creative flexibility, letting you customize non-pan-related control assignments. Enter Custom Assign mode to place any parameter in the Focused channel on the X or Y axis. For example, you could assign the gain and frequency of an EQ to the panner’s X and Y axes to achieve dramatic filter sweeps with a simple fingertip or joystick move.

The D-Control Surround Panner integrates directly with Pro Tools HD software to deliver robust automated panning. You can also use AutoGlide to pan sounds automatically from one position to the next to move sound over time. Write pan automation by simply pressing new locations in the Surround Panner window in real time; the sound moves to the new location during playback based on your AutoGlide Time settings. And use Glide Automation in Pro Tools to create precise off-line automation.
