The Avantone CLA10 is a near-identical reproduction of the most iconic studio monitor of all time — the Yamaha NS10M. The legendary "white cone in the black box" is back and just like the original, the CLA10 shines a spotlight on every little flaw in your mix. Get your tracks sounding right on a pair of CLA10s and you can rest easy that they’ll sound good anywhere.
Designed in conjunction with the iconic Chris Lord Alge, the CLA10 is a painstakingly accurate recreation of the legendary NS10s. It uses the same sealed-box cabinet design, which provides limited bass response and highlights the mid-range for that classic “mid-forward” sound. As a result of extensive testing, the tweeter uses the exact phenolic resin doping as the original for an identical frequency response. The woofer uses custom tooled mechanical parts to achieve the same stiffness and weight in each cone, allowing for a more consistent frequency response between units.
Every single component in the CLA10 was reverse engineered to sound identical to the original. Any changes were only to improve the lifespan of the speaker, and have no effect on the tonal character. The crossover network uses the same value capacitors, but is made from a better material and has a higher rating. The rear terminal plate also uses a better grade of conductor for improved efficiency. The inductors have the exact same DC resistance, winding dimensions and value. The cabinet is even made from MDF and shares the same real wood veneer.
One of the only differences the CLA10 has from the original speaker has to do with the cone construction. The CLA10 features a modern pressed cone, which allows them to achieve better control over stiffness and weight while still retaining an identical sonic response to the original. Thanks to this small but significant improvement, matched pairs are available for the first time, allowing for greater accuracy and balance between speakers.

I’ve not your typical NS10 lover, but I’ve owned multiple pairs of them for years and consider them necessary for checking mixes. I am more than satisfied with the Avantone because now I can rely on them all sounding just right for years to come, where my older NS10s are sounding old and worn out.
These are not the best sounding speakers I’ve ever heard, but I will recommend them every time because of how wonderfully accurate they are. If you want mixes that translate no matter where you go, use these. As they used to say about the NS-10M’s, if you can make a mix sound good on these, they’ll sound good on anything! Just make sure you have a good commercial quality amp to push them.
