Since Yamaha discontinued the iconic NS10M, the supply of aftermarket components has become both more expensive and less available. Avantone Pro has done an exact reverse engineering of the original drivers culminating in the creation of the Avantone AV10 MLF. Using global resources and decade of experience in driver constructed, they have reproduced the components faithfully, updating the materials to comply with RoHS requirements.
The AV10MLF replacement driver is physically and dimensionally exactly the same as the original and is a “bolt in” hassle-free install that requires no changes to the cabinet in the installation process.
The low-frequency driver, AV10MLF, is a near exact match from 20 Hz to the crossover frequency. Avantone have changed the cone design from a lapped seam to a single continuous press formed cone from the same supplier as the original. This allows a much higher level of quality control and consistency during the manufacturing process.
I've been ignoring two sets of NS-10m's at two different studios I work at regularly for over 20 years because the just sounded so brutal. I remember them being unforgiving back in the '90's, but not THAT unforgiving. Took a chance and swapped the drivers on one set, and IMMEDIATELY ordered drivers to replace the other set at the other studio. NIGHT AND FREAKING DAY. I forgot how much l loved be able to balance distorted guitars on these at soft volumes and hear the mid details that I am not hearing on my other monitors. I'm assuming the old drivers were just worn out, or maybe there's something in these drives that sounds a bit less edgy, or both. Regardless, I'm REALLY enjoying using them again after all these years. Highly recommend for any legacy owner of NS10m's.
I was skeptical when I purchased these woofers for my NS10's. However after installing the and now listening for several weeks, I can tell you these are every bit as good as the original Yamaha sourced woofers used in the NS10 monitors. Mechanically they are solid and the fit is exact. Overall construction is excellent. And sonically they are a dead match for the originals. Super happy I got these,
