Hailing from the small town of Byron, IL, Matter Myer was passionate about drumming from an early age. It all started when he first saw a Peter Frampton concert on VH1, featuring Shawn Pelton on drums. Years later, he would be selected as one of five drum set students to attend the University of Miami, where he honed his craft.
In addition to playing his drum kit, a trusty DW Collector’s Series kit in broken glass finish, Matt also experiments with synthesis and sound design using his Moog Grandmother and Ableton Live. When Matt’s not playing music, he enjoys hiking, tennis, cooking, and playing his PS5.
After graduation, Matt spent over a decade working at Apple Retail, where he was lucky enough to attend a few concerts at the renowned Apple Park. Now living in sunny Sherman Oaks, CA, Matt is eager to bring his skills to the Vintage King team. He’s most excited to collaborate with fellow musicians and help create custom workflows.
Who are some of your favorite musical artists and why?
I’m a big fan of Tool’s Ænima and Lateralus for the drum/sampling wizardry of Danny Carey, and the amazing mixing of David Bottrill.
I also like Nine Inch Nails’ With Teeth, as well as their live albums with Josh Freese on drums for the attitude/sound. Jeff Buckley’s voice was incredible on Grace, as well as his arrangements.
A few of my other favorites would be St. Vincent, Led Zeppelin, Failure, and Michael Jackson.
What are some of your favorite non-music-related things to do?
Cooking has been a passion of mine since middle school. If you need a recommendation for a recipe or technique, I most likely have it! I’ve spent a little too much time watching Food Network and Gordon Ramsay's BBC specials.
