Brent Leuthold's musical journey spans across the United States; originally from Pittsburgh, he traversed the Midwest, attending school in Ohio, and now calls Indiana home. Brent's career boasts a wide range of experiences, making him a valuable asset to the Vintage King team. With a background advising on pro audio gear, live sound engineering, studio work, podcast recording, and personal music projects, he brings a well-rounded perspective to the fold.
As a music maker, Brent's journey began with piano at the age of 10, followed by saxophone and guitar. His musical inclinations were nurtured by his mother, who infused their home with the rhythms of rock and oldies. Today, Brent crafts acoustic guitar-centered compositions with vocals at the forefront.
Brent’s setup is a carefully curated arsenal of instruments and gear. He rotates among five acoustic guitars, favoring a pair of Lauten Torch microphones for their exceptional transient response. For vocals, he wields an sE Electronics Gemini II microphone into a Grace Design m103 for sculpting the perfect sound. While in-studio, his Universal Audio Apollo X8 reigns supreme, but on the go, his UA Volt 476 takes the reins.
Beyond the realm of sound, Brent is an avid cinephile who pens weekly film reviews and hosts the "Awake In The Dark" podcast, a captivating exploration of recent releases. He also has a penchant for craft beer and meticulously documents his experiences on Untappd.
At Vintage King, Brent is brimming with anticipation as he prepares to immerse himself in the world of top-tier recording equipment. His enthusiasm is matched only by his eagerness to learn from industry titans, absorbing insights on production and engineering that will undoubtedly shape his own creative endeavors.
Who are some of your favorite musicians/bands/albums and why?
My favorite band is Talking Heads; their combination of artistic eccentricities, infectious grooves,
and unstoppable energy is the pinnacle of rock music for me. In terms of albums, I have lots of
favorites but some of my alltimers would include Revolver, Nevermind, and Kid A.
More recently, I've been working through listening (or relistening) to each of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time on Rolling Stone's 2020 revision of the list. It's been a fun and rewarding project that has solidified my personal taste and broadened my musical horizons even more than they were before I started.
What is something interesting about you that you would like to share with the
team?
I love live music and try to see my favorite acts whenever I can. I've gone to Coachella twice
and Lollapalooza each year from 2010 to 2014. I'm not usually the obnoxious one in the crowd
taking all the photos, but sometimes I am.
