The ATC SCM20ASL Pro features a 1-inch soft dome S-spec tweeter with an innovative dual suspension design for pristine high-end. S-spec tweeters combine an exceptionally powerful motor assembly with a lightweight coil former for an extended frequency range up to 25 kHz. Unlike conventional tweeters, S-spec tweeters offer far greater control of the voice coil and dome motion—especially at higher sound pressure levels. By reducing internal distortion, S-spec tweeters deliver improved clarity and definition, and significantly reduce listener fatigue. And with zero ferro fluid, these tweeters are guaranteed to last a lifetime.

The best monitors at this size. ATC's rule.
These are the truth. Truly in a league of their own. They are extremely detailed and accurate, however they come with the price tag to match. Bass response is accurate and tight. However if you’re expecting room rattling bass..these are not for you - go barefoot or the like. The mids are absolutely gorgeous. Highs are silky. Forget about ear fatigue. We mix on these for hours on end. These work so nonchalantly, without distortion you may not realize how loud they’re actually playing. Overall, a high end tool for a high end job. Impressive.
i’ve had the pleasure of assisting some great producers here in LA for the last few years and have been able to listen to a lot of different speakers in some really great rooms. all of them sounded impressive in their own way- PMC’s had this sort of holographic depth and imaging, Barefoots with their effortless low end reach, etc etc.
one speaker manufacturer i could never understand the hype over was ATC. every time i would A/B them in the VK showroom or in studio sessions that had a pair up, i always felt overwhelmingly underwhelmed. they don’t extend low, they aren’t exciting on the top, and overall they seemed “weaker” than what other top-dog manufacturers were offering up for the price point.
last summer i finally had the opportunity to build out my own 175 sq ft control room with proper corner bass trapping, 6” top-to-bottom first-reflection absorption and some modest diffusion. the first pair of monitors that landed in here were a pair of Barefoot Footprint 01’s. they had me blown away, as the imaging and low end of them along with different voicing options really seemed to offer an insane amount of versatility for the price. however, i continued struggling with my mixes sounding better in my room than they did in the car or on earbuds. there were no major surprises, as the bass is accurate and the top end seemed to translate well (they will MAKE you fix any harshness if you want to get through a listening session without a migraine) - i still always felt like i was listening to mixes that suffered from wonky midrange, and had the overall amateur haze going on.
i decided to take a chance on ATC’s, and will never sign off on a mix not done on them ever again. they are NOT a shake the room, blow the client away speaker. what they are though is a shortcut to mixes that sound unlike anything i’ve ever done. they force you to make critical midrange decisions from start to finish, and minimize distractions in the highs and lows. make no mistake- it’s all there; the proper sealed cabinet (no ports or radiators) allow them to stretch well down below the stated roll-off point with a speed and accuracy that, in my experience, is unsurpassed. top end is smooth, but will absolutely tell you when you’ve pushed the top end too hard on anything. get your mix/balance in the ballpark on these, and you will be rewarded when you switch to headphones, the car, or even your B set of monitors. for the first time in my life when i listen to stuff i’ve been working on with these, i forget i’m listening to “my” mix, and i’m able to focus on “their” song, and figure out what i can do to help the emotional impact of the song reach its full potential.
they are not the first speaker i’d want to sit down and listen to music on, but i will never make music on anything else again. Always The Champions.
My first listen on these speakers was as close to a religious experience I’ve ever had. The clarity and width is unreal. I bought these to upgrade my home setup and ended up getting SCM45’s in my commercial studio 6 months later. I don’t believe there’s any reason or really a way to upgrade anytime soon. One thing: they’re bigger and heavier than you’ll expect.
Amazing. Navon rules.
Navon from VK has been a wealth of knowledge. Very pleased. Tim
These things sound pro. Not sure how else to describe it. Flat as a pancake and revealing in the mid range. My mixes are playing real nice in the car! Just realize that they lack sub bass extension which isn't a major deal for most genre's. There are bass limitations with the cone size and closed port design but there are benefits to that as well.
