Antelope Audio Edge Quadro Modeling Microphone
4-channel large-diaphragm modeling microphone for 360 degree recording
The Antelope Audio Edge Quadro Modeling Microphone is a stereo condenser microphone that features two large dual-membrane capsules and a rotating head. This highly advanced modeling microphone features four dedicated outputs for stereo techniques like M/S, X/Y, Blumlein, and even 3D audio—making it the perfect solution for both stereo and 360° sound recordings.
Outfitted with custom electronics designed by Antelope’s award-winning engineers, Edge Quadro delivers next-level precision and adjustability. Both Quadro heads are capable of recording in cardioid, figure-8 and omnidirectional pickup patterns. This dual-capsule condenser mic features 6-micron gold-sputtered dual-membranes for advanced stereo processing. The low-resonance body and low-reflection headbasket produce hyper-accurate recordings with a neutral frequency response from 20 Hz - 20 kHz. Edge Quadro is perfect for capturing any sound source—with an impressive dynamic range of -116 dB THD+N. But nobody buys a pack of crayons for the beige one—the real charm of the Edge Quadro lies in its ability to emulate more colorful mics.

Life on the Edge
Edge Quadro offers hyper-accurate emulations of stereo techniques like M/S, X/Y, Blumlein and even 360° audio—but if you’re looking for a simple solution to basic tracking check out the Edge Solo or Edge Duo.
Edge Solo is a single-capsule large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid polar pattern for fast, easy recording.
Edge Duo is dual-membrane large-diaphragm condenser microphone that uses two separate XLR output channels for hyper-accurate multi-dimensional mic modeling.
Antelope Audio has expanded their Edge series with the release of the new Edge Solo, Edge Duo and Edge Quadro. All of these microphones come replete with incredible vintage microphone emulations that will allow you access to classic sounds in the studio, in addition to just being great mics on their own.
Last week I was able to spend a day in the studio with the new Edge series microphones, and after testing each microphone on a variety of sources, I was blown away. There are so many options available right out of the box and the variety of tones I was able to get from a single microphone without leaving the control room was extremely satisfying Continue reading →
Every acoustic sound source, be it a piano, violin, guitar, speaker cabinet, or the human voice, requires a microphone to capture that sound. That makes the microphone the first interface with the vibrating air and the first link in the audio chain. Like any endeavor, you want to have a solid foundation. The microphone is that foundation. Choose the right one and your life just got easier. Choose the wrong one and you’ll be fighting an uphill battle all the way through the signal path. And nobody wants that. Continue reading →
The contents of your microphone locker can say a lot about your studio. Ask any engineer who walks into a place with a wide-ranging collection of large diaphragm condensers, ribbons, and dynamics, how they feel about working there. More than likely, they'll say, "Inspired." Ask the same to an engineer who has to deal with a bunch of broken microphones that were used at your last house show. I'm sure they'll feel differently.
So if you're looking to slowly build up your collection and have some options along the way, a modeling microphone can be a really attractive tool. With the power to emulate some of the most iconic mics of all time (all within the few clicks of a mouse), modeling microphones are one easy way to pull together an arsenal of legendary sounds at a great price. Antelope Audio has been extremely busy as of late. The company launched the succesful Edge and Verge modeling mic series and has followed that up with a reworking of many of its interfaces. At the 2019 NAMM Show, we were introduced to the third generation of the Orion 32+ and Orion 32 HD. Both of these interfaces have seen significant upgrades with new mastering-grade converters, an improved dynamic range, and spruced up faceplates.
With the recent release of these upgraded Orion interfaces, we wanted to hit the studio and use the Orion 32 HD to record and mix a song. This powerful tool offers 64 channels of audio via USB 3.0 or Avid’s MiniDigilink connectors, and provides access to Antelope’s FPGA effects platform. These plug-ins include a wide variety of classic emulations and impressive tools, including 35 EQs, compressors, reverbs, and more, for real-time effects processing. Continue reading →
